A process for preparing an optical filter comprising a colored cross-linked polymeric coating on a transparent substrate, which comprises applying to the substrate, by a printing process, a mixture comprising one or more polymer precursor(s), and one or more dye(s) having one or more heterocyclic NH group(s) or one or more substituent (s) capable of forming a covalent bond with the polymeric precursor, and thereafter using the mixture. The invention also provides formulations comprising one or more polymer precursors and dyes, optical filters, and a novel dye.

This invention relates to derivatives of acrylic acid useful in agriculture (especially as fungicides but also as plant growth regulators, insecticides and nematocides), to processes for preparing them, to agricultural (especially fungicidal) compositions containing them, and to methods of using them to combat fungi, especially fungal infections in plants, to regulate plant growth and to kill or control insect or nematode pests. The invention provides a compound having the formula (I): ##STR1## and stereoisomers thereof, wherein W is a substituted pyridinyl or substituted pyrimidinyl group linked to A by any of its ring carbon atoms; A is either an oxygen atom or S(O).sub.n wherein n is 0, 1 or 2; X, Y and Z, which are the same or different, are hydrogen or halogen atoms, or hydroxy, optionally substituted alkyl (including haloalkyl), optionally substituted alkenyl, optionally substituted alkynyl, optionally substituted alkoxy.

Process for the preparation of 1-lower alkoxycarbonyl-3-(.beta.,.beta.-dichlorovinyl)-2,2-dimethylcyclopropanes from the corresponding 1-cyano-1-carboxylic acid ester by hydrolysis, decarboxylation of the free carboxylic acid, reaction of the cyclopropane nitrile with a lower aliphatic alcohol and anhydrous hydrogen chloride, followed by alcoholysis or hydrolysis of the reaction product so obtained to give the desired ester or carboxylic acid. Includes a method for the separation of essentially pure cis- and trans-isomers from the mixed nitriles. The products are useful intermediates for the preparation of pyrethroid insecticides.
