An autoinjector including: a housing, in which can be mounted a syringe () having a plunger, a barrel and needle () at one end thereof through which medicament can be delivered to an injection site,&#x2014;a syringe support means () capable of causing said syringe to move along an axial path with respect to said housing; biasing means capable of biasing said syringe support means so that said needle is normally inside said housing; and engagement means () selectively moveable by a user from a first position in which rearward movement of the syringe along said axial path is substantially prevented when said syringe is in an extended position where at least part of said needle is out of the housing, to a second position in which rearward movement of the syringe along said axial path relative to said housing is possible and said biasing means causes said needle to retract inside said housing; wherein said housing includes an outer housing () and said autoinjector further comprises a sleeve () intermediate the syringe support means and said outer housing that is capable of moving the engagement means between said first and second positions by rotating said sleeve about a longitudinal axis of said autoinjector between a first rotational position and a second rotational position; and wherein the sleeve is moveable between said first and second rotational positions by moving said outer housing with respect to the sleeve in a substantially axial direction.

An autoinjector including a housing, in which can be mounted a syringe having a plunger, a barrel and needle at one end thereof through which medicament can be delivered to an injection site; a syringe support means capable of causing said syringe to move therewith along an axial path with respect to said housing; biasing means capable of biasing said syringe support means so that said needle is normally inside said housing, blocking means selectively moveable by a user from a first position in which rearward movement of the syringe along said axial path is substantially prevented, to a second position in which rearward movement of the syringe along said axial path relative to said housing is possible and said biasing means causes said needle to retract inside said housing.

An autoinjector comprising an outer housing in which can be mounted a syringe for holding a volume of medicament, the syringe for holding medicament having a needle at one end thereof, a syringe holder for supporting the syringe in an axial position relative to the outer housing, and an intermediate housing at least part of which is located within said outer housing, characterised in that said intermediate housing is provided with a blocking means capable of abutting the syringe or the syringe holder so as to be capable of preventing forward axial movement of the syringe when a forward axial force is applied to said needle before actuation of the autoinjector to deliver an injection, but incapable of preventing forward axial movement of the syringe during actuation of the autoinjector to deliver an injection.

An injection device comprising an outer housing adapted to receive a syringe for holding a volume of a medicament, said syringe comprising a barrel, a needle at one end of the barrel, and a plunger, axially moveable within the barrel, the needle and barrel being such that at least part of the needle is axially moveable in and out of said outer housing but is biased to be normally wholly inside said housing. The injection device further comprises an inner housing intermediate the outer housing and at least part of the barrel and/or plunger, an energy source in communication with the inner housing, and blocking means capable of preventing said inner housing moving axially under the influence of said energy source. The device is moveable between two positions, namely a first position in which the inner housing is prevented from moving axially forward by engagement with said blocking means; and a second position in which the inner housing is disengaged from said blocking means and is capable of acting on the syringe under the influence of said energy source to move said at least part of the needle out of said outer housing. The device is moveable from said first position to said second position by movement of said outer housing relative to said inner housing and actuation of a trigger.
