A method of controlling a pumping stage of a fracturing fleet at a wellsite with a set of diesel pumps and at least one electric pump to smooth the flowrate transition to an operational setpoint with a higher flowrate. An optimization process communicatively connected to the plurality of pumping units can iterate an interim setpoint with a transfer function model to each pumping unit. The transfer function model can generate a smooth flowrate transition by decreasing the flowrate of at least one pump unit while increasing the flowrate to the remaining pump units.

Method to control hydraulic fracturing spread with electric pumps

A method of controlling a pumping sequence of a fracturing fleet at a wellsite. A managing application executing on a computer in the control van can retrieve the pumping sequence from a local or remote storage computer. The managing application can establish an electronic communication link to receive sensor data from a plurality of fracturing units. The managing application can control the plurality of fracturing units with a stage script with multiple sequential instructions for a pumping stage of a pumping sequence while receiving one or more periodic data sets from the plurality of fracturing units wherein the data sets are indicative of the current state of the pumping stage of the pumping sequence.

A method of controlling a pumping stage of a fracturing fleet at a wellsite with a set of diesel pumps and at least one electric pump to reduce the total operating cost by decreasing the flowrate to the pump units with the higher operating cost and increasing the flowrate to the pump units with the lower operating costs. An optimization process on a computer system communicatively connected to the plurality of pumping units can communicate a first interim setpoint to each pumping unit. The optimization process can calculate an operating cost for the diesel frac pumps based on sensor measurements of pressure, flowrate, and motor speed. The optimization process can calculate an operating cost for the electric frac pumps based on the measured power usage and cost of the power. The optimization process can lower the operating cost of fracturing fleet below a threshold operating cost value.

The flow control device having an element that generates an acoustic signal indicative of a value of a parameter of the fluid in response to the fluid flowing through the flow control device. The systems include a fiber optic control system, a first sensing system, a second sensing system, an optical fiber disposed within a well, and an optical switch arranged between the optical fiber and the first and second sensing systems, wherein the fiber optic control system performs time division multiplex control of the optical switch wherein the first sensing system is operably connected to the optical fiber and the second sensing system is not connected to the optical fiber, and further controls the optical switch such that the second sensing system is operably connected to the optical fiber and the first sensing system is not connected to the optical fiber.

Time division multiplexing of distributed downhole sensing systems

A system and method to determine temperature include an optical fiber and at least two pulse laser sources to transmit light pulses with at least two wavelengths into the optical fiber. The system also includes an optical path length modulator to modulate the optical path length of the optical fiber as the light pulses are transmitted into the optical fiber. At least two photodetectors detect backscatter reflected in the optical fiber, and a processor determines the temperature based on the backscatter.

A method and apparatus for seismic sensing is described. The apparatus includes an outer cable coupled to a formation and an outer fiber component proximate to the outer cable. When seismic P- and S-waves propagate from the formation to the outer cable, strain is placed on the outer fiber cable, which may be measured by a distributed acoustic sensing system coupled to the outer fiber cable. An inner cable positioned within the outer cable includes a corresponding inner fiber component. The innerduct between the outer and inner cables is filled with a gas or fluid which allows only P-waves to propagate to the inner cable. Those P-waves induce strain on the inner fiber component, which may be measured by the distributed acoustic sensing system. By measuring the seismic P- and S-waves at the outer fiber component, and the isolated seismic P-wave at the inner fiber component, it is possible to calculate an isolated seismic S-wave measurement. Methods for deploying the seismic sensing apparatus are also described.

Distributed seismic sensing for in-well monitoring

A distributed temperature sensor and a method of determining temperature are described. The distributed temperature sensor includes an optical fiber to filter or remove Stokes Raman scatter and prevent stimulated Raman scatter and a light source to inject light into the optical fiber. The distributed temperature sensor also includes a photodetector to detect light energy resulting from the light injected into the optical fiber, the light energy including anti-Stokes Raman scatter and Rayleigh scatter; and a processor to determine temperature based on a ratio of the anti-Stokes Raman scatter and the Rayleigh scatter.

A fluid monitoring system comprises a data acquisition and control interface and one or more fluid measurement devices communicatively coupled to the data acquisition and control interface. The one or more fluid measurement devices are configured to detect amounts of fluids pumped into or exiting the well bore during cementing. The data acquisition and control interface receives a first set of data comprising calculated volumes and/or pressures of a flow of one or more fluids exiting a model well bore over a predetermined period of time based in part on a heat of reaction produced by the curing of a cement composition, and a second set of data comprising volumes and/or pressures of a flow of one or more fluids pumped into or exiting the well bore from the one or more fluid measurement devices. The data acquisition and control interface uses the first and second sets of data received to determine one or more characteristics of the cement composition.

Systems and methods for monitoring and validating cementing operations using connection flow monitor (CFM) systems

A system and method for monitoring oil flow rates at multiple points in production wells using a flow sensing fiber optic cable. An illustrative system embodiment includes: a fiber optic sensing system housed within a tube suitable for a downhole environment; and a flow to signal conversion device attached to the tube and deployed in the oil flow.
