Sensor-based shaving systems and methods of analyzing a user's shave event are described for determining a unique threshold value of the user. A grooming device comprises a handle having a connecting structure connected to a hair cutting implement. A shave event sensor associated with the grooming device measures a user behavior, which includes collecting a first dataset comprising shave data defining a shave event. The first dataset is transmitted via a communication device and is analyzed to determine baseline behavior data of the user, and a unique threshold value of the user is determined from the baseline behavior data. One or more subsequent datasets, each comprising shave data of one or more corresponding shave events, is compared to the unique threshold value to determine comparison data. An indication is provided, based on the comparison data, to indicate a deviation from the threshold value and to influence the user behavior.

A grooming device. The grooming device includes a handle having proximal and distal ends, an implement connecting structure, grooming implement, displacement sensor, and power source providing power to the displacement sensor. The implement connecting structure is pivotably connected to the proximal end of the handle about a first handle axis and has a connection element and an eject element that is moveable within the implement connecting structure along a second handle axis. The implement connecting structure also has a location element pivotably connected to the eject element such that as the implement connecting structure moves about the first handle axis the location element remains stationary relative to the handle and as the eject element moves along the second handle axis the location element is displaced relative to the handle and the displacement sensor detects displacement of the location element. The grooming implement is connected to the implement connecting structure.

A grooming device. The grooming device includes a handle having a housing portion with proximal and distal ends. A displacement sensor is positioned within the handle. A power source is positioned within the handle and provides power to the displacement sensor. A neck portion of the handle has proximal and distal ends and the distal end of the neck portion is connected to the proximal end of the housing portion. An implement connecting structure is positioned at the proximal end of the neck portion and includes a connection element. An eject element is moveable within the handle, and a location element is connected to the eject element. A grooming implement is connected to the connection element. As the eject element moves to eject the grooming implement from the connection element the displacement sensor detects displacement of the location element.

A personal appliance. The personal appliance includes a handle having an implement connecting structure. An implement is connected to the implement connecting structure. An implement displacement sensor is associated with the handle. The implement displacement sensor measures a displacement of the implement relative to a fixed position of the handle. A power source, an acceleration sensor and an angular velocity sensor are associated with the handle.

A method for generating user feedback information from a shave event associated with a user. A shaving razor is provided to user. The shaving razor includes a handle, a hair cutting implement connected to the handle, at least one motion sensor in the handle, a hair cutting implement displacement sensor associated with the handle, a communication device associated with the handle and a power source associated with the handle. The power source powers the at least one motion sensor, the hair cutting implement displacement sensor and the communication device. Shave event data associated with the user during a shave is collected from the at least one motion sensor and the hair cutting implement displacement sensor. The shave event data is processed to generate user feedback information.

Method for generating user feedback information from a shave event

A grooming device including a handle and a grooming implement connected to the handle. The handle includes a first portion having a housing, a proximal end and a distal end. A displacement sensor is positioned within the housing. A power source is positioned within the housing with the power source providing power to the displacement sensor. A neck portion is pivotably connected to the proximal end of the first portion about a handle pivot axis. The neck portion includes a proximal end, a distal end and a location element. As the neck portion pivots about the handle pivot axis relative to the first portion the displacement sensor detects displacement of the location element.

A networked shaving appliance system includes: (a) a shaving appliance including a handle and a shaving head cartridge connected to the handle and motion, orientation, and/or pressure sensors associated with the handle and/or shaving head cartridge; (b) a sensor circuit connected to receive sensor signals and generate shave event information from the sensor signals; (c) a network circuit wirelessly connected with a computer network and communicating at least the shave event information to the computer network; and (d) a computerized tool operating, at least in part, on a computerized user device connected to the computer network. The computerized tool is configured to receive shave event data associated with a user of the computerized device from the computer network, receive user profile data from the user via a graphical user interface provided by the computerized tool, process the shave event data with the user profile data to generate user feedback information, and communicate the user feedback information to the user via the graphical user interface provided by the computerized tool.
