A negative pressure wound closure system and methods for using such a system are described. Preferred embodiments of the invention facilitate closure of the wound by utilizing a stabilizing structure that preferentially contracts to provide for movement of the tissue. Some embodiments may utilize a protective layer, such as a mesh or net layer, attached to a top surface of the stabilizing structure. The protective layer prevents a drape positioned over the stabilizing structure from being drawn into cells of the stabilizing structure, and permits visualization of the collapse of the cells.

Wound closure device with protective layer and method of use

Disclosed embodiments relate to apparatuses and methods for wound treatment with ultrasound. In certain embodiments, a therapeutic ultrasound wound treatment apparatus includes a wound dressing configured to be positioned over a wound to provide a substantially fluid impermeable seal over the wound and a transducer to deliver therapeutic ultrasound to tissue. The therapeutic ultrasound wound treatment apparatus may further include a wound contact layer configured to be positioned in contact with the wound, a transmission layer positioned above the wound contact layer, an absorbent layer positioned above the transmission layer and configured to absorb wound fluid, and a backing layer positioned above the absorbent layer and including an orifice. Also disclosed are multiple parameters for the therapeutic ultrasound signal.

Preferred embodiments of the invention facilitate closure of the wound by preferentially contracting to provide for movement of the tissue. Some embodiments may include wound closure devices built from smaller units that are modular, assemble-able and/or customizable.

Embodiments of the invention facilitate closure of the wound by preferentially contracting under negative pressure to provide for movement of the surrounding tissues. Some embodiments may utilize a stabilizing structure with a plurality of cells configured to collapses more in the x-direction than in the y-direction.

There are described novel adhesives, which are capable of being &ldquo;switched&rdquo; form a tack to a non-tacky state. Such switchable adhesives are especially advantageous when used in medical dressings, and therefore, novel medical dressings comprising a switchable adhesive layer, a removable light occlusive layer and an intermediate transparent or translucent layer are also described.
