A fire extinguishing concentrate contains water, a first surfactant which is an anionic surfactant, a second surfactant which is an amphoteric surfactant, a third surfactant which is selected from an anionic surfactant and an amphoteric surfactant, the third surfactant being different from the first and second surfactants, and water, along with optional ingredients. The concentrate may be combined with water to provide a fire extinguishing composition that may be applied to a fire for a time and in an amount effective to extinguish the fire.

Disclosed herein is a method that includes mixing opacifying agent particles with a thickening agent to form a first mixture; the mixing being conducted at a shear rate of about 10 to about 2,000 sec; the first mixture having a viscosity of greater than or equal to about 70 Krebs units; and mixing a polymer latex binder with the first mixture to form a coating composition; the polymer latex binder including a copolymer that comprises phosphorus containing repeat units and an acrylate polymer.

The present invention provides a method for minimizing the decomposition of cyanohydrins in exothermic chemical reactions involving cyanohydrins. The method comprises providing a reaction medium and reactants to a tubular reactor having internal mixing means, mixing the reaction medium and reactants to form a homogenous reaction mixture, removing heat from the reaction process and reacting the reactants to produce a mixed product having a bulk temperature. The method may further comprise cooling the reaction medium to a temperature from 1-10&#xb0; C. cooler than the bulk temperature of the mixed product prior to providing the reaction medium to the tubular reactor.
