Disclosed is a method of manufacturing a metal matrix composite in which oxide nanoparticles are dispersed. Metal matrix composite powders in which oxide nanoparticles are dispersed are prepared. Gibbs free energy of the oxide nanoparticles is greater than that of an oxide of a metal matrix. A bulk processed material is manufactured from the composite powders through hot forming or a cast material is manufactured by inputting the composite powder into a molten base metal and then rapidly stirring a resultant mixture. The bulk processed material or the cast material is heat-treated so that atoms of the metal matrix and atoms of the oxide nanoparticles mutually diffuse. Oxygen atoms originating from the oxide nanoparticles are diffused and dispersed in the metal matrix.

Oxygen atom-dispersed metal matrix composite and method of manufacturing the same

An austenitic steel matrix-nanoparticle composite and a producing method thereof are provided. The composite includes: an austenitic steel matrix that includes an alloying element; and a nanoparticle that grows in situ in the matrix and that is formed in the matrix. The nanoparticle grows from the alloying element included in the austenitic steel matrix. The method includes: preparing an austenitic steel matrix including an alloying element; and heating the austenitic steel matrix. In the method, the nanoparticle grows in situ in the matrix from the alloying element which is solid-dissolved in the austenitic steel matrix by the heating.

Austenitic steel matrix-nanoparticle composite and producing method thereof

The present invention is related to a method of fabricating an aluminum matrix composite by a simple process of heating a mixture of a ceramic reinforcing phase and aluminum in nitrogen containing atmosphere and an aluminum matrix composite fabricated by the same. The aluminum matrix composite may be fabricated by heating to temperatures even lower than the melting temperature of aluminum as well as to temperatures higher. The exothermic nitridation reaction contributes to the melting of the aluminum matrix and the aluminum nitride formed in-situ as a result may act as an additional reinforcing phase.
