An absorbent article which can have an improved vertical absorption capability in the depth direction of the absorbent article. The absorbent article can have a topsheet layer, a backsheet layer, and an absorbent system positioned between the topsheet layer and the backsheet layer. The absorbent system can have at least a fluid intake layer and an absorbent core. The fluid intake layer can provide the absorbent article with a raised portion which can improve the vertical absorption capability in the depth direction of the absorbent article.

An absorbent article can have a top sheet layer, a back sheet layer, and an absorbent system positioned between the top sheet layer and the back sheet layer. The absorbent system can have at least a fluid intake layer, an absorbent core, and a distribution layer. The fluid intake layer can define a fluid intake layer opening and the absorbent core can define an absorbent core opening. A void space is present between the top sheet layer and the distribution layer and the top sheet layer is maintained in a spaced apart relationship from the distribution layer.

An absorbent article includes two planar liquid permeable topsheet layers with a first topsheet layer suspended from the longitudinal ends of the second topsheet layer. The first topsheet layer is of shorter length than the second topsheet layer such that the relaxed absorbent article includes a curvature along its length. The first topsheet layer defines a central opening and two end openings which allow for air circulation through the article and also for the second topsheet layer to be seen through the openings in the first topsheet layer. While the first topsheet layer is at least extensible, it is desirably elastic.

An absorbent article can have a chassis which can have a backsheet layer, a topsheet layer, and an absorbent system positioned between the backsheet layer and the topsheet layer. The absorbent system can have at least one absorbent layer which is a lobed absorbent layer. At least one flexure feature can associate with the lobed absorbent layer. A pair of non-integral wings can be bonded to the backsheet layer of the chassis.

A feminine care absorbent article that contains multiple printed patterns of graphical objects visible from a body facing surface is provided. The layout and design of the patterns are carefully selected in the present invention to achieve a synergistic masking effect that helps visually disguise the presence of bodily fluids or stains around the periphery of the article. Such 'passive' stain masking is achieved, in part, through the use of printed patterns that are distributed in an asymmetric manner about both the longitudinal and transverse centerlines of the article. The printed patterns are also located at or near the periphery of the article and at least partially extend into portions of the body facing surface that overlie the absorbent core. The pattern design is also such that a majority of an interior zone of the absorbent article is generally free of printed graphical objects.

The present application discloses and claims an absorbent article which utilizes a stabilizing member within the article having a design which is intended to reduce the amount of vertical bunching of the product when the product is subjected to lateral compressive forces as are commonly exerted by a wearer during use of the article.

An absorbent personal care article, such as a sanitary napkin or incontinence pad is described having a longitudinal centerline and a transverse centerline and including a pair of opposed first and second wings extending along the longitudinal sides of the article. The article further includes first and second protective strips attached to the sides of the article such that when the wings are folded under the article and around the wearer's undergarment, the first and second protective strips extend laterally outboard of the article and the edges of the wearer's undergarment to provide additional protection against leakage of body fluids deposited onto the absorbent personal care article.
