The present invention relates to a pharmaceutical composition for preventing or treating obesity or diabetes, and to a food composition and feed composition for preventing or alleviating obesity or diabetes, comprising as an active ingredient, anextract, aextract, or compounds isolated therefrom. The composition has synergistic antidiabetic and antiobesity activity compared to that of using only anextract, aextract, or compounds isolated therefrom. Therefore, it is possible to reduce the possibility of any side effects that may be caused by an overdose of or long-term administration of theextract and a substance isolated therefrom, and thus the composition can be very effectively utilized in the development of a therapeutic agent for diabetes or obesity.

Composition for preventing or treating obesity or diabetes, comprising acanthopanax senticosus extract and garcinia cambogia extract or compound isolated therefrom

A skin whitening composition includes β-mangostin or a cosmetically acceptable salt thereof as an effective ingredient. β-Mangostin represented by Chemical Formula 1 suppresses the expression of tyrosinase and TRP-1 (tyrosinase-related protein-1) and induces autophagy of a melasosome. As such, it was confirmed that the β-mangostin not only suppresses melanin production but also exhibits the effect of removing previously formed melanin. Accordingly, the β-mangostin can be advantageously used as a functional material for skin whitening and skin lightening.

The present invention relates to a composition for suppressing chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) comprising aextract, a fraction thereof, or a compound isolated therefrom and, more particularly, to a pharmaceutical composition for preventing or treating COPD comprising aextract, a fraction thereof, or a compound isolated therefrom; a food composition for preventing or improving COPD, and the compound isolated therefrom. In addition, due to the use of a safety-proven herbal drug as a raw material, the composition of the present invention can resolve various side-effects of existing therapeutic agents for COPD, chronic obstructive bronchitis, chronic bronchiolitis, emphysema, multiple sclerosis, and acute and chronic inflammation, and thus can be effectively used as a composition for preventing, treating and remedying COPD.

The present invention relates to a composition for preventing or treating asthma comprising aJ. Poiss. ex Franch extract or a fraction thereof. TheJ. Poiss. ex Franch extract or the fraction thereof according to the present invention does not exhibit toxicity, inhibits the generation of NO, IL-4, IL-5, and IL-13 and the generation of reactive oxygen species in the bronchial tubes, and has significantly induced the alleviation of airway hyperresponsiveness, inhibition of the infiltration of inflammatory cells into the bronchial tubes, and reduction of inflammatory cells in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid in an ovalbumin-induced asthma mouse model. Disclosed relates to a novel chalcone derivative, pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, a method for preparing the same and uses thereof, the chalcone derivative being readily obtained through the steps of: reacting aminoacetophenone with sulfonylchloride under the presence of an appropriate salt; and reacting the compound prepared in the above step with hydroxybenzaldehide under the presence of an appropriate catalyst. The chalcone derivative of formula 1 in accordance with the present invention having strong enzyme inhibitory activities for glycosidase can be effectively used in preventing and treating various diseases induced by glycosidase, and the chalcone derivative of the invention having tyrosinase and melanin synthesis inhibitory activities can be effectively used as a skin-whitening compound.
