A polymeric foam has a thermoplastic polymer matrix defining multiple cells, the foam characterized by: (a) the polymer matrix having greater than 50 weight-percent copolymer containing at least two different monomers at least one of which is a methacrylate monomer, each monomer having a solubility parameter lower than 20 (megaPascals)and a chemical composition where twice the mass fraction of oxygen plus the mass fraction of nitrogen, fluorine and silicon is greater than 0.2; wherein the monomers comprise at least 90 weight-percent of all monomers in the copolymer; (b) at least one of the following: (i) a nucleation site density of at least 3&#xd7;10effective nucleation sites per cubic centimeter of foamable polymer composition; (ii) an average cell size of 300 nanometer or less; (c) a porosity percentage greater than 30%; (d) an absence of nano-sized nucleating additive; and (e) a thickness of at least one millimeter.

Barrier films made from a composition comprising vinylidene chloride (VDC) interpolymer and poly(butylene succinate) (PBS) exhibit improved tear resistance in both the machine and cross directions without a significant deterioration in oxygen transmission rate as compared to barrier films made under like conditions and from a composition alike in all respects except that the PBS is replaced with additional VDC interpolymer.

The present invention provides thermosetting aqueous binder compositions of one or more cyclic enamine, including bis-enamines and di- or higher functional enamines, optionally containing a water soluble or dispersible or dispersible primary amine compound. The binders are at least substantially formaldehyde free, need no polycarboxylic or polycarboxylate component, and yet provide excellent hot wet tensile strength when cured for as little time as a minute or less in use.

The invention includes a copolymer of vinylidene chloride with at least one monounsaturated comonomer and at least one branching monomer in an amount sufficient to increase molecular weight over that of a polymer prepared using the same process and same monomers in the same relative amounts except without the branching monomer, but preferably the branching monomer is present in a quantity not sufficient to result in measurable crosslinking as determined by solubility in tetrahydrofuran at up to 83&#xb0; C. The invention includes a process for making the polymer and processes for forming the copolymer or compositions thereof as well as articles comprising the copolymer and compositions thereof. The copolymer exhibits improved bubble stability and is particularly useful for processes in which the copolymer is at least partially oriented in formation such as blow molding, formation of monofilament fiber and film blowing.
