An encoding method of an encoder is provided. The encoder generates first MDCT coefficients by transforming an input signal, and generates MDCT indices by quantizing the first MDCT coefficients. The encoder generates second MDCT coefficients by dequantizing the MDCT indices, and calculates MDCT residual coefficients using differences between the first MDCT coefficients and the second MDCT coefficients. The encoder generates a residual index by encoding the MDCT residual coefficients, and generates gain indices corresponding to gains from the first MDCT coefficients and the second MDCT coefficients.

A method of controlling the codec mode of a convergence internet protocol (IP) network and a terminal using the method are provided. The terminal may include a variable bit-rate/mode codec controller including a channel status measurement and management (CSMM) unit which measures the status of a wireless channel and provides the results of the measuring of the wireless channel status as channel quality information, and which measures the transfer performance of a received packet and provides the results of the measuring of the packet transfer performance as packet measurement parameter information, and a service quality control (SQC) unit which measures the quality of a multimedia service based on the channel quality information and the packet measurement parameter information, provides the results of the measuring of the multimedia service quality as service quality information and determines a codec mode of the terminal or a counterpart terminal communicating with the all-IP terminal based on the service quality information. Method for controlling codec mode in all-IP network and terminal using the same

An encoding apparatus and a decoding apparatus for reducing the quantization error of a G.711 codec and improving sound quality are provided. The encoding apparatus includes a G.711 encoder which generates a G.711 bitstream by encoding an input audio signal; an enhancement-layer encoder which chooses one of a static bit allocation method and a dynamic bit allocation method that can produce less quantization error based on the input audio signal and the G.711 bitstream, and outputs an enhancement-layer bitstream including encoded additional mantissa information obtained by using the chosen bit allocation method; and a multiplexer which multiplexes the G.711 bitstream and the enhancement-layer bitstream. Therefore, it is possible to reduce the quantization error of a G.711 codec and improve sound quality.

Encoding and decoding apparatuses for improving sound quality of G.711 codec

An apparatus and method for adaptive sub-band allocation of spectral coefficients are disclosed. The sizes of sub-bands are determined according to the distribution of spectral coefficients transformed from an input speech/audio signal to perform more elaborate quantization in units of sub-bands. Thus, quantization noise of the spectral coefficients is reduced, and sound quality in a frequency region is enhanced, thereby improving the quality of the signal.

The transmission delay of a voice frame can be reduced by performing internal collision resolution and frame aggregation according to the presence or absence of a voice frame awaiting transmission in a MAC layer, thereby reducing an end-to-end voice transmission delay time for a VoIP service.

A media-gateway controller for call set-up processing when different codecs are used and a method therefor are provided. A storage unit stores a codec conversion table indicating a relationship between a first codec and a second codec in conversion from the first codec to the second codec. A receiver receives first call setting data including codec data of a caller from the caller and receives first call response data including codec data of a callee from the callee as a response to second call setting data having been transmitted to the callee. A data transformer searches the codec conversion table for a first codec using the caller's codec data as an index and adds a second codec corresponding to the searched first codec to the first call setting data to generate the second call setting data. In addition, the data transformer searches the codec conversion table for a second codec using the callee's codec data as an index and replaces the callee's codec data included in the first call response data with a first codec corresponding to the searched second codec to generate a second call response data. A transmitter transmits the second call setting data to the callee and transmits the second call response data to the caller.

Media-gateway controller and a call set up processing method for non-same codec communication

A method of processing information charge discount rates for service subscribers in a premium-rate service. Information charge discount rate data for each service subscriber is registered and a service subscriber number and a calling number are received from Service Switching Point. The received service subscriber number is designated as an index value of a main table in a service subscriber database and the main table is then retrieved to check whether data corresponding to the designated index value are present in the main table. If the data corresponding to the designated index value are present, a service feature classification data field in the main table is retrieved to check whether the service subscriber has subscribed to a flexible charging-by-day/time service. If the service subscriber has subscribed, data are read from a day/time classification data field in the main table, and a specific data information charge discount rate, a specific day information charge discount rate, a specific time information charge discount rate and a holiday information charge discount rate are calculated according to the read data. The calculated information charge discount rates are transmitted together with an information charge class and a called number to a service switching point.
