Disclosed are a photonic multiband filter and a method of operating the same. The photonic multiband filter includes an optical frequency comb that forms multiple optical channels based on a single light source incident from an outside, a modulator that applies an RF signal modulated into an optical domain among a plurality of RF signals to the multiple optical channels, and a pulse shaper that determines a center frequency, a bandwidth, and a passband shape of the RF signal modulated into the optical domain including the multiple optical channels.

Photonic multi-band filter and method of operating same

A method and an apparatus for transmitting and receiving a voice signal simultaneously with a video signal via a single transmission line in a video phone. The apparatus comprises video signal receiving means for discriminating if a carrier frequency in the video signal being sent via the transmission line from a counterpart is which of a second frequency or a third frequency set within a frequency band of transmission line, demodulating the video signal with one of the second and third frequencies depending upon the discriminated result, and outputting the demodulated video signal to a displaying monitor; and video signal transmitting means for inputting the video signal from a self-camera, modulating the video signal with the other of the second and third frequencies and outputting the modulated video signal to the transmission line. The method comprises the steps of turning on/off power, designating the second frequency or the third frequency as carrier frequency of the video signal for transmitting, and performing only voice telephone call. In accordance with the present method and apparatus, the simultaneous transmission and reception of the video signal between a caller and the counterpart can be established via the single transmission line in the video phone, as well it is possible to send the voice signal simultaneously with the video signal via the single transmission line in the video phone.

An apparatus for automatically sensing televiewing distance to determine whether or not a televiewer is standing within a predetermined potentially harmful distance in front of a television set by making use of the elapsed time difference between an ultrasonic pulse generated and emitted from a transmitter located on the television set and which is then reflected from a televiewer located in front of the television set. The reflected pulse is then received by an ultrasonic wave receiver also located on the television set and in the event that the televiewer stands within the predetermined distance for a time longer than is required, for example, to make a manual adjustment to the television set, a signal is generated which deactivates the video portion of the television set until such time that the televiewer moves to a safe distance away from the set beyond the predetermined potentially harmful distance at which time the video portion is again reactivated.

Device for automatic sensing of televiewing distance

This disclosure depicts a circuit for protecting eyesight from the screen of a TV set. A infrared transmitter is provided on a side of the front of the TV set so that pulse signals therefrom are received on a receiving-amplifying portion for remote control already installed in the TV set after reflecting upon a viewer within a predetermined distance from the TV screen. A monostable multivibrator has an input for receiving pulse output signals from the remote control receiving-amplifying portion in response to reflected pulse signals applied thereto and also has an output. A delay circuit portion has an input operatively connected to output of the monostable circuit portion and also has an output, producing the level signals on the ouput thereof when higher level signals are applied on its input over a predetermined time and otherwise producing lower level signals. A video amplifier driving circuit portion for controlling the 'ON' and 'OFF' of an video amplifier has an input operatively connected to the output of the delay circuit portion and also has an output selectively disabling the video amplifier in response to the occurrence of reflected pulse signals for a predetermined period of time.
