A gadget for retroreflected signal measurement is disclosed. The gadget for measuring the retroreflected signal includes a partitioning wall; a portable terminal receiving portion disposed on one surface of the partitioning wall; a biosensor receiving portion disposed on the other surface of the partitioning wall and constructed to receive a biosensor therein; a light exit channel defined in the partitioning wall and at one side thereof; and a light-receiving channel adjacent to the light exit channel and defined in the partitioning wall, wherein light passes through the light exit channel and then is reflected from the biosensor, and then is incident into the light-receiving channel.

Disclosed is a method of manufacturing lanthanide fluorescent silica nanoparticles, including a complex synthesis step of synthesizing a silane-lanthanide chelate complex, an emulsion formation step of forming a water-in-oil microemulsion by dispersing micelles, the water-phase core of which is introduced with the silane-lanthanide chelate complex, in an oil-phase solvent, a silica introduction step of introducing a silica precursor into the microemulsion, and a nanoparticle synthesis step of synthesizing fluorescent silica nanoparticles by crosslinking the silica precursor and the silane-lanthanide chelate complex in the micelles. The lanthanide fluorescent silica nanoparticles thus manufactured can be utilized in fluorescence analysis of inorganic materials or bio-derived materials.

The present invention provides a cell measurement device and method in which retroreflective particles are introduced to measure cells, and thus, an optical signal is obtained without fixing of life activity of cells and performing a separate staining process. An example of the use of retroreflection-based cytometry is evaluation of cell migration. The cells capture the retroreflective particles during cell migration or growth, and migrate in a state that the particles are captured in the cell or bind to the cells. The migrated cells are observed in a form of bright dots inside the cells under irradiation of white light as a non-spectroscopic light source to the cells in the retroreflective optical system. The number of bright spots is counted, and thus, the number of cells and the presence thereof thus can be easily measured based on an image.

An optical bio-sensing device includes a transparent substrate covering a top of a space accommodating therein a sample containing a target bio-material; a signal converter fixed to the transparent substrate, and including the upconversion nanoparticles for receiving incident light and emitting converted light of a wavelength shorter than a wavelength of the incident light; a signal reflector including retroreflection particles bindable to the signal converter via the target bio-material, wherein the retroreflection particles retroreflect the converted light; a light source for irradiating the incident light to the signal converter; and a light receiver for receiving light retroreflected from the signal reflector.

A microfluidic device for controlling the flow of a micro amount of fluid is provided. The microfluidic device is manufactured by binding a sensing substrate including a sensing electrode, an electrode interconnect, and a electrode pad, with a channel substrate including at least two fluid inlet ports, a chamber, and a channel, wherein a first fluid injected via one of the fluid inlet ports flows by natural capillary force, and a second fluid injected via another fluid inlet port is forced to flow by an external pump. The microfluidic device controls fluid flow and flow stoppage by a combination of natural capillary flow and an externally applied pressure as a result of the action of a pump.
