The MAC frame in a wireless communication system includes a terminal ID allocated to each of multiple terminals. At least one connection ID is allocated to each terminal having the terminal ID, and sub-carrier allocation information is allocated to each connection having the connection ID. The sub-carrier allocation information includes a sub-carrier allocation status for each sub-carrier, and the number of allocated information bits for each sub-carrier. The sub-carrier allocation status and the number of allocated information bits for each sub-carrier can be allocated, by sub-carriers, to the sub-carrier allocation information using a same number of bits; or the information on the sub-carrier allocation status is first allocated to the sub-carrier allocation information and the number of allocated information bits for each sub-carrier is allocated.

A diversity order of diversity modulation may be set based on an FTN parameter, such as a variable for adjusting sampling time or a symbol transmission speed. When the diversity order is set based on the FTN parameter, the FTN parameter and the diversity order may be set so as to satisfy a QoS required of the transmission apparatus, such as a transmission rate and a Bit Error Rate. The apparatus for receiving a signal based on FTN includes an equalizer for creating a Log Likelihood Ratio (LLR) sequence by equalizing an FTN signal sequence sampled at an FTN signaling rate; a deinterleaver for deinterleaving the created LLR sequence; a decoder for decoding the LLR sequence by correcting errors in the deinterleaved LLR sequence; an interleaver for interleaving the decoded LLR sequence and providing the interleaved LLR sequence to the equalizer; and an FTN interference estimation unit for providing the FTN signal sequence, from which an FTN interference sequence is eliminated, to the equalizer, using the interleaved LLR sequence.

Interference of a pilot symbol on a data symbol is estimated, and the estimated interference is eliminated from a sequence of data symbols. When demodulation and channel decoding are performed on the sequence of data symbols, interference between data symbols and interference of a data symbol on a pilot symbol are estimated. Provided is a channel estimation apparatus and method using a linear/nonlinear average in a wireless communication system. The present research provides a channel estimation apparatus and method for estimating a channel between a transmitter and a receiver from a pilot-inserted OFDM signal and linearly or nonlinearly averaging the estimating channel, thereby preventing the equalizer performance from being degraded by noise component of the estimated channel and noise amplification caused by deep fading. The channel estimation apparatus includes: a channel estimation unit configured to estimate a channel coefficient of a channel between a transmitter and a receiver from a pilot-inserted carrier signal according to pilot arrangement; and a linear/nonlinear averaging unit configured to linearly or nonlinearly averaging the estimated channel coefficient, thereby preventing an equalizer performance from being degraded by noise component existing in the channel and noise amplification caused by deep fading.

The present invention relates to a method for timing acquisition and carrier frequency offset estimation of an OFDM communication system and an apparatus using the same. For this purpose the present invention provides a method for calculating at least one auto-correlation and calculating an observation value by performing a sliding sum on the at least one auto-correlation, and calculating a peak point of an absolute value of the observation as frame timing. In addition, the present invention provides a method for generating a third OFDM symbol that is generated by delaying a second OFDM symbol, calculating an observation value through the second and third OFDM symbols, and calculating a phase difference from a result of multiplication of the observation value and a conjugate complex value of the observation value such that a carrier frequency offset can be estimated. According to the present invention, the number of OFDM symbols is sufficient for obtaining timing acquisition with high reliability, and the offset estimation algorithm having a lower implementation complexity is provided such that superior performance is expected and carrier frequency offset with high reliability can be achieved.

The present invention relates to a multi-input multi-output (MIMO) system for enhancing transmission performance. The MIMO system uses space-time encoding and transmit antenna selection methods, and includes a transmitter () and a receiver (). The transmitter () includes N transmit antennas (--) that are more than M transmit antennas (--) used for transmitting a signal to space channel, selects the M transmit antennas (--) among the N transmit antennas (--), and transmits symbol by space-time encoding the symbol.
