Provided is a plasma flat lamp. The provided lamp includes a discharge gas filled in a discharge area of a discharge container, at least two electrodes generating a gas discharge in the discharge area, a low work function material layer located in a discharge path between the electrodes and collided against gas ions that are generated by the gas discharge, and a fluorescent layer generating visible rays by ultraviolet rays that are generated by the gas discharge in the discharge container. The provided plasma flat lamp reduces a driving voltage due to the low work function material layer against which ions are collided, and increases luminescent efficiency by reducing the absorption of ultraviolet rays of the low work function material layer.

A plasma discharge method and a plasma display using the same. In the method, a sustain discharge uses a facing surfaces discharge and a surface discharge after an address discharge. The discharges occur in separate discharge areas, and priming particles generated by the discharges are exchanged. Thus, the stability and the efficiency of the sustain discharge increase, and a gap for the address discharge decreases to lower a breakdown voltage.

Plasma discharge method and plasma display using the same

A design for a plasma display panel (PDP). The novel PDP has two separate layers of fluorescent material. One layer of fluorescent material can generate long wavelength from VUV rays and the other fluorescent layer can convert either of VUV or long wavelength ultraviolet rays into visible rays. Such a PDP improves the luminance efficiency by more efficiently using the UV and VUV rays generated during plasma discharge.

A plasma display panel (PDP) and a method of manufacturing the panel includes sustain electrodes having a double gap structure and a predetermined resistance value. Each of the sustain electrodes includes a main electrode for sustaining a discharge and an auxiliary electrode for starting a low-voltage discharge without decreasing efficiency. A gap between auxiliary electrodes included in different sustain electrodes, respectively, is narrower than a gap between the different sustain electrodes. Each auxiliary electrode is formed between barrier ribs or immediately above a barrier rib. A ditch is formed in a dielectric layer covering the main electrodes and the auxiliary electrodes. The ditch is formed immediately above an auxiliary electrode.

Plasma display panel including sustain electrodes having double gap and method of manufacturing the panel

A flat lamp and a method of driving the same are provided. The flat lamp includes a front panel and a rear panel, which are spaced a predetermined distance apart from each other and hermetically sealed, and a spacer, which is provided between the front panel and the rear panel to maintain the front and rear panels separated by the predetermined distance and secure a discharge space. A predetermined discharge gas exists in the discharge space, and a fluorescent layer is formed on an inner surface of at least one of the front and rear panels. In the flat lamp, a plurality of electrode groups, each of which includes at least three electrodes, are provided in the rear panel.

Flat lamp and method of driving the same

In an Alternating Current (AC) plasma display panel, a rear substrate and a front substrate are arranged to face each other. Discharge cells are formed between the rear and front substrates. A plurality of strip-shaped address electrodes are arranged on the rear substrate. A first dielectric layer is arranged on the rear substrate, and the address electrodes are buried in the first dielectric layer. A plurality of strip-shaped sustaining electrodes are arranged in pairs on the rear substrate to cross the address electrodes at right angles. A second dielectric layer is arranged on the rear substrate, and the sustaining electrodes are buried in the second dielectric layer. A protective layer is arranged on a bottom surface of the second dielectric layer. A plurality of barrier ribs are arranged between the front and rear substrates and define the discharge cells. The lateral sides of each of the barrier ribs are coated with a fluorescent layer. Each of the address electrodes includes thick portions disposed below the discharge cells and thin portions disposed between adjacent thick portions. The thick portions are thicker than the thin portions.

A flat lamp with horizontal facing electrodes is provided, in which a front substrate and a rear substrate are spaced such as to face each other. Walls between the front and rear substrates form a discharging space filled with a discharge gas. A plurality of front electrodes and a plurality of rear electrodes are provided on facing surfaces of the front and rear substrates, respectively. The front and rear electrodes, formed in strips, are arranged in such a way that the front electrodes alternate with the rear electrodes. Accordingly, the discharging distance between front and rear electrodes is lengthened, and many fine discharging operations occur between tip electrodes extending from the lateral sides of the electrode strips and flat portions of corresponding electrode strips. Therefore, a current concentration is prevented, thereby achieving uniform discharging. Also, brightness of the flat lamp increases.
