A display substrate has first and second conductive layers separated from one another by an insulation layer. A second and supplementing protection layer is provided on top of the first protection layer. A second area extending in a second direction, a third area spaced apart from the second area in a first direction perpendicular to the second direction and extending in the second direction, a first area disposed between the second area and the third area, a first buffer area disposed between the first area and the second area, and a second buffer area disposed between the first area and the third area are defined on the second surface. The first area has a first thickness, and each of the second and third areas has a second thickness greater than the first thickness. A plurality of groove patterns is defined in the first buffer area and the second buffer area.

A gate driving circuit includes N stages (where N is a natural number greater than or equal to 2). The N stages are cascaded, and each of the N stages has a gate line connected thereto. A first stage group includes k stages of the N stages (where k is a natural number less than N), and the first stage group outputs a first output signal in response to a start signal. A second stage group (including N&#x2212;k stages) generates a second output signal in response to the first output signal and outputs the second output signal to a corresponding gate line. The first stage group includes a first buffer and a second buffer, each of which receives the start signal. A size of the first buffer is smaller than a size of the second buffer.

Gate driving circuit and display apparatus including the same

A display device includes gate lines, data lines, first wires and second wires extending in the directions of the gate lines and data lines, and pixels having a first subpixel and a second subpixel each. The first subpixel has a first subpixel electrode and a first switching element, and the second subpixel has a second subpixel electrode and second and third switching elements. The control terminals of the three switching elements are connected to the same gate line, and the input terminals of the first and second switching elements are connected to the same data line. The first and second switching elements have output terminals connected to the first and second subpixel electrodes, respectively. The second switching element's output terminal connects to the third switching element, which has an output terminal connected to a second wire. The first wires and the second wires are connected in a pixel.

A liquid crystal display includes: a first gate line; a first data line crossing the first gate line; a first switching element connected with the first gate line and the first data line; a second switching element connected with the first gate line and the first data line; a first liquid crystal capacitor connected with the first switching element; a second liquid crystal capacitor connected with the second switching element; a boost switching element which is turned on during a time period not overlapping a time period during which the first switching element is turned on; and a boost capacitor including a first terminal connected with the boost switching element and a second terminal connected with the first liquid crystal capacitor.

Liquid crystal display and driving method thereof

A display substrate includes a gate line, a data line and a pixel electrode. The gate line is extended in a first direction on a base substrate. The data line is extended in a second direction crossing to the first direction. The pixel electrode is disposed on a pixel area of the base substrate. The pixel electrode includes a first sub-electrode and a second sub-electrode spaced apart by an opening portion, and receives a voltage having a same polarity. The opening portion includes a straight line portion extended in the first direction, a diagonal line portion extended in a third direction crossing the first and second directions, and a protrusion portion disposed in a length direction of the straight line portion at a portion of the pixel electrode where the straight line portion and the diagonal line portion meet.

Display substrate and display panel having the same

A display panel includes a first display substrate, a second display substrate, and a liquid crystal layer. The first display substrate includes a first base substrate having a plurality of display cells, a plurality of data lines, a plurality of gate lines, and a plurality of pixel electrodes. The data lines, the gate lines and the pixel electrodes are respectively separated in each of the display cells. The second display substrate includes a second base substrate, a light blocking pattern corresponding to the data lines and the gate lines, a common electrode facing the pixel electrodes, and a common line overlapping with the blocking pattern. The liquid crystal layer is disposed between the first and second display substrate.
