A dryer includes a drum including a drum body, a front cover having a drum inlet, and a rear cover, a fixing panel spaced apart from the rear cover, a stator fixed to the fixing panel, a rotor configured to rotate relative to the stator, a housing that is fixed to the fixing panel, a first shaft fixed to the rotor and located in the housing, a second shaft located in the housing and fixed to the rear cover, and interlocking gears rotatably located in the housing and configured to transmit a rotational force of a driving gear defined at the first shaft to a driven gear defined at the second shaft. The first shaft and the second shaft are configured to rotate about a common rotation axis passing through the driving gear shaft and the first shaft hole.

An apparatus for treating laundry includes a cabinet and a drum. The cabinet includes a base panel, a support panel fixed to the base panel, and a fixed panel fixed to the base panel. The drum includes a cylindrical drum body and a drum entrance defined at a front cover of the cylindrical drum body. A clothes treatment apparatus, including a drum rotatably provided within a cabinet to accommodate washing and drying objects; and a heat pump including an evaporator, a compressor, a condenser, and an expansion valve, through which refrigerant is circulated, to provide heat to air discharged from the drum and circulated to the drum, wherein the heat pump further includes an internal heat exchanger configured to exchange heat between refrigerant discharged from the condenser and refrigerant passing through the evaporator.

Disclosed is a control method for laundry treating apparatus configured to perform a dry cycle for clothes by operating a heat pump comprising: a measuring step for measuring a temperature of a refrigerant and a temperature of air which pass through an evaporator to exchange heat; a comparing step for comparing a difference between the measured temperatures of the refrigerant and air with a preset reference temperature; and an adjusting step for adjusting an opening degree of the expansion valve according to the result of the comparing step.
