An electronic device is disclosed that includes a camera, a display, and a processor. The processor is configured to obtain a request associated with biometric authentication, obtain an image including at least one external object using the camera, display a specified image on the display, when displaying at least a portion of the obtained image on a specified area of the display, the at least a portion of the obtained image being as a portion of the specified image, in response to displaying a specified object associated with the biometric authentication among the at least one external object on the specified area, perform the biometric authentication using biometric information corresponding to the specific object, and when displaying another image different from the obtained image on the display, the other image being as a portion of the specified image, in response to obtaining an image including the specified object among the at least one external object, perform the biometric authentication using the biometric information corresponding to the specified object. An electronic apparatus is provided. The electronic device includes a display, a fingerprint sensor disposed under the display, and a processor electrically connected with the display and the fingerprint sensor. The processor is configured to set a fingerprint sensing region at a location, which corresponds to a location where the fingerprint sensor is disposed, on the display if the electronic apparatus enters a state for registering a fingerprint of a finger, to display a first guide on the display such that the first guide at least partly overlaps the fingerprint sensing region, to obtain first fingerprint information through the fingerprint sensing region if the finger touches the first guide, to display a second guide on the display such that the second guide at least partly overlaps the fingerprint sensing region, and to obtain second fingerprint information through the fingerprint sensing region if the finger touches the second guide.

An electronic device is provided. The electronic device includes a transparent member, a display positioned under a transparent member that includes a plurality of pixels, an image sensor positioned under some areas of the display, a memory, and a processor. The processor obtains a first image at least based on light output through at least some of the plurality of pixels and reflected by an external object coming into contact with the transparent member using the image sensor, performs authentication on the external object at least based on the at least one template using the first image, generates a second image of the external object at least based on the first image when quality of the first image corresponds to a given condition based on a result of the authentication, and performs authentication on the external object at least based on the at least one template using the second image.

Fingerprint verification method and electronic device performing same

Methods and electronic devices are provided in which first fingerprint information of a first portion of the user's fingerprint is obtained upon the user's fingerprint contacting the fingerprint sensor. A display object is output within a target area for the fingerprint registration, in response to obtaining the first fingerprint information. A guiding object is output to guide contact of a next portion of the user's fingerprint that is adjacent to the first portion. Next fingerprint information of the next portion of the user's fingerprint is obtained upon the user's fingerprint contacting the fingerprint sensor guided by the guiding object. Upon modifying the display object based on the obtained next fingerprint information, the steps of outputting a guiding object and obtaining a next fingerprint information are repeated until fingerprint information at least partially surrounding the first portion is obtained.
