A power management method and apparatus for a wireless LAN module in a computer system may include a communication sensitivity checking unit for checking a communication sensitivity of a wireless communications channel. If a communications sensitivity is lower than a desired value, a power mode of the wireless LAN module is changed into a sleep mode for a predetermined period of time. After the delay period expires, the wireless LAN module is switched back into a normal mode, and the communications sensitivity is checked again. If the communications sensitivity is acceptable, a data checking unit checks to determine whether there is data to be transmitted/received by the wireless LAN module. If no data needs to be sent, at least the transmission block of the wireless LAN module can be set to the power down mode. Also, if an attempt to set up a communications channel is unsuccessful, the device can be set to the power down mode for a predetermined delay period. After the delay period expires, the wireless LAN module is returned to the normal mode for another setup attempt.

Power management method and apparatus of wireless local area network module in computer system

The present invention relates to an apparatus and method of a Universal Serial Bus (USB) device to control power supply for USB devices coupled to a host through a USB and to control power supply for the coupled USB devices based on whether the USB devices are operative. A power supply controlling apparatus and method can interrupt power supply for an USB internal circuitry and other coupled USB devices if a state of signals on corresponding data lines coupled to a host represents inoperative state of the host or individual USB to reduce or prevent overall power consumption.

Power supply controlling apparatus of a device connected to a serial bus

A method of demanding/supplying a necessary electric power through a self-adjusting process between two devices connected by a Universal Serial Bus (USB), removing the requirement of disconnecting and re-connecting cable lines in order to make a power demand again. A power supplying device first determines how much electric power is demanded by a demanding device, then sends the device a signal of impossible supply or the like if the demand can not be met. The supplying device also determines whether or not a new electric power demand can be supplied if the demanding device demands again, and the supplying device then supplies power to the demanding device if the demand can be met. A power demanding device demands an electric power from a supplying device connected through the USB. The connected power demanding device first reduces the demand if a signal of impossible supply or the like is received from the supplying device, then demands the reduced amount from the supplying device.
