A display device is disclosed that includes a display element layer, a circuit element layer, and a light control layer. The display element layer is disposed above a base layer and includes first, second, and third light emitting elements providing source light to first, second, and third light emitting regions, respectively, toward the base layer. The circuit element layer is disposed between the base layer and the display element layer. The light control layer is disposed between the display element layer and the circuit element layer and includes a color filter layer and a quantum dot layer. The color filter layer includes first, second, and third color filters and the quantum dot layer is disposed on the color filter layer and includes quantum dots that overlap the first light emitting region and first, second, and third pixel circuits.

A curved display device includes a display substrate, an opposite substrate, and a liquid crystal layer interposed between the display substrate and the opposite substrate. The display substrate is curved along a first direction and includes a pixel electrode and a second alignment layer disposed on the pixel electrode. The opposite substrate is coupled to the display substrate to be curved along the first direction and includes a common electrode and a first alignment layer disposed on the common electrode. The first alignment layer comprises different material from the second alignment layer. The pixel electrode includes branch portions extending in a direction inclined with respect to the first direction when viewed in a plan view, and a pitch, which is defined by a sum of a width of each branch portion and a distance between the branch portions, is within a range from about 7.5 micrometers to about 8.5 micrometers.

Curved display device

A liquid crystal display device includes a first substrate, a first alignment layer on the first substrate, a second substrate facing the first substrate, a second alignment layer on the second substrate, and a liquid crystal layer between the first substrate and the second substrate and including liquid crystal molecules. The first alignment layer and the second alignment layer include a polymer including at least of polyamic acid, polyimide, and a combination including at least one of the foregoing polymers, and a compound including an epoxy cross-linker represented by Chemical Formula 1.

Liquid crystal aligning agent and liquid crystal display device

Provided is a liquid crystal display apparatus. The liquid crystal display apparatus may include a first pixel electrode, a second pixel electrode, a common electrode, and a liquid crystal layer. The first pixel electrode is disposed in a first area, and includes a plurality of outer branches spaced apart from each other. The second pixel electrode is disposed in a second area spaced apart from the first area with an electrode gap therebetween and surrounded by the first area, and includes a plurality of middle branch portions spaced apart from each other. An extending direction of the electrode gap forms one of an acute angle or an obtuse angle with an extending direction of each of the outer branch portions, and the extending direction of the electrode gap forms one of an acute angle or an obtuse angle with an extending direction of each of the middle branch portions.

Liquid crystal display apparatus and manufacturing method thereof

A liquid crystal display panel including a first display substrate, a second display substrate coupled to and spaced apart from the first display substrate, and a liquid crystal layer disposed between the first and second display substrates. The first and second display substrates include inorganic layers containing an inorganic silicon-based material. The liquid crystal layer includes alignment molecules vertically aligned with respect to the inorganic layers, and liquid crystal molecules vertically aligned between the inorganic layers. A manufacturing method of the liquid crystal display panel includes surface-treating the inorganic layers to vertically align the liquid crystal molecules.

The patterned retarder is disposed between the polarizing plate and the signal line. The patterned retarder retards the external light such that the external light reflected by the signal line does not pass through the polarizing plate.

A liquid crystal lens panel includes a first substrate including a first base substrate and a first electrode layer disposed on the first base substrate; a second substrate including a second base substrate facing the first base substrate and a second electrode layer disposed on a surface of the second base substrate, the second substrate facing the first base substrate; and a liquid crystal layer disposed between the first substrate and the second substrate. A liquid crystal display includes at least one pixel. The pixel includes a first sub-pixel charged with a first voltage and a second sub-pixel charged with a second voltage different from the first voltage. A first sub-pixel electrode provided in the first sub-pixel and a second sub-pixel electrode provided in the second sub-pixel include slits having different widths according to directions. Due to the slits, average directors of the first and second sub-pixels are tilted in a horizontal or vertical direction. Accordingly, a side visibility of the display apparatus is improved.

Liquid crystal display

A liquid crystal display includes a plurality of pixels, a first substrate, a second substrate, and a liquid crystal layer disposed between the first and second substrates. The first substrate includes a first base substrate and a pixel electrode provided on the first base substrate to correspond to each of the pixels. The second substrate includes a second base substrate facing the first base substrate and a common electrode provided on the second base substrate. The common electrode forms an electric field having an equipotential surface substantially parallel to an upper surface of the first base substrate in cooperation with the pixel electrode. The liquid crystal layer is disposed between the pixel electrode and the common electrode and includes a liquid crystal composition having an anisotropic dielectric constant equal to or smaller than &#x2212;2.9 and equal to or larger than &#x2212;1.7.

An inspection apparatus for a display substrate includes a reflection plate, a liquid crystal layer, an electrode layer, a &#xbc; wavelength retardation plate and a polarization plate. The liquid crystal layer is disposed on the reflection plate and includes liquid crystal molecules which have a retardation value of about 140 nanometers to about 200 nanometers and are operated in a twisted nematic mode. The electrode layer is disposed on the liquid crystal layer and generates an electric field in cooperation with an electrode of the display substrate. The &#xbc; wavelength retardation plate is disposed on the electrode layer and the polarization plate is disposed on the &#xbc; wavelength retardation plate.

Inspection apparatus for display substrate

A liquid crystal display includes a first substrate, a first pixel electrode, a second pixel electrode, a second substrate, and a liquid crystal layer. The first pixel electrode is formed on the first substrate. The second pixel electrode overlaps with at least a part of the pixel electrode with the first insulating layer interposed therebetween. The second pixel electrode has a plurality of elongated openings and applies a voltage to the liquid crystal layer that is different from the voltage the first pixel electrode applies to the liquid crystal layer.

A display panel includes a first substrate and a second substrate facing the first substrate. The second substrate includes a first electrode and a second electrode spaced apart from each other. A cholesteric liquid crystal having a pitch shorter than a wavelength of a visible ray and a rotation axis substantially perpendicular to the first and second substrates is disposed between the first and second substrates. The display panel displays a grayscale image in response to an electric field generated between the first and second electrodes. A polymer is added to the cholesteric liquid crystal, and a concentration of the polymer is controlled by exposing the polymer to a light. The concentration of the polymer in an area adjacent to the first substrate may be higher than the concentration of the polymer in an area adjacent to the second substrate.
