A composition for preventing or treating dry eye syndrome includes nanocomposite of a polyethylene glycol and a flavonoid as an active ingredient, and in the present invention, a catechin/PEG nanocomposite having increased catechin bioavailability is prepared by using catechins which are an antioxidant and polyethylene glycol which is a hydrophilic polymer used in a drug delivery system, and an increase in tear generation, stabilization of corneal epithelial cells, an increase in conjunctival goblet cells and enhanced anti-inflammatory effects accordance to a PEG dosage by the catechin/PEG nanocomposite are confirmed in a mouse model with dry eye syndrome.

The present invention relates to a pharmaceutical composition for preventing or treating dry eye, the pharmaceutical composition including, as an active component, a novel peptide is disclosed, wherein it is confirmed that the peptide has effects on improving tear production and corneal surface smoothness for dry eyes induced by desiccation stress and suppressing detachment of corneal epithelial cells, reduction in conjunctival goblet cells, and generation of inflammatory factors, thereby applying a composition including the peptide as an active component to the pharmaceutical composition for preventing or treating dry eye.

A pharmaceutical composition for preventing or treating an ocular surface disease is disclosed, wherein the pharmaceutical composition includes, as an active component, collagen type II &#x3b1;1 based peptide SEQ ID NO: 2 isolated from chondrocyte-derived extracellular matrix (CDEM). In an alkaline burn animal mode treated with peptide SEQ ID NO: 2, the occurrence of corneal opacification is reduced as well as the expression of angiogenic factors. In addition, the expression of inflammatory markers is reduced while the expression of inflammation-inducing factor is suppressed. The peptide SEQ ID NO: 2 may be applied to a pharmaceutical composition for preventing or treating an ocular surface disease.

Provided is a pterygium animal model produced by injecting human-derived pterygial epithelial cells that are isolated and cultured in vitro. The animal model has characteristics similar to those of pterygium, which are observed only in humans, wherein such characteristics are caused in such a way that pterygial epithelial cells are isolated from human pterygium corneal tissues and cultured, the cultured pterygial epithelial cells are sub-cultured, and human-derived pterygial epithelial cells of which identify is confirmed are injected into the nasal subconjunctival space of mice. The pterygium animal model allows a pterygium therapeutic agent to be effectively screened.
