A data storage device comprises a housing, a data storage medium within the housing and a head gimbal assembly including a suspension supporting a read/write head. The read/write head is configured to store and retrieve data on the data storage medium. The read/write head is operably positioned between the data storage medium and the housing. The device further includes a head-lift limiter protruding from the housing that limits a movement of the read/write head in a direction that is substantially orthogonal to the data storage medium.

An apparatus and associated method for handling a device in a manner that enhances a self-purging efficiency with which debris in the device is ameliorated. The apparatus and associated method includes rocking the device along a rocker conveyor path defined by opposing rails supporting respective rows of cantilevered eccentric rollers, wherein the rollers supported by one rail of the opposing rails are clearingly disengaged from the rollers supported by the other rail of the opposing rails, and wherein the device is instantaneously supported by one or more of the rollers supported by the one rail and one or more of the rollers supported by the other rail.

Device handling system

A data analysis system analyzes data sets that are characterized by a wide variety of probability density functions (PDFs), and also analyzes mixed populations, i.e., a single data set containing subsets of data that each fit a different distribution. The data analysis system receives quality control data from a product manufacturing or product testing floor, determines whether the data is a mixed population, and fits the data with a variety of PDFs. The data analysis system selects the best fitting PDF based on statistical characteristics calculated for each fitted PDF. The data analysis system generates performance capability parameters based on the best fitting PDF, and may generate reports illustrating the performance capability parameters. The data analysis system also adjusts statistical control limits to provide a more reliable process trigger and control plan. In this manner, the data analysis system may more accurately report product performance.

A method of forming a disc pack for use in a disc drive is provided. The method includes forming at least one alignment feature between an inner diameter and an outer diameter of each of a plurality of discs. The at least one alignment feature of a first disc of the plurality of discs and the at least one alignment feature of a second disc of the plurality of discs are utilized to substantially vertically align servo patterns on the first disc with servo patterns on the second disc. A disc pack having discs that include alignment features for aligning servo patterns on the discs is also provided.

Method of forming a disc pack

Steps for clamping storage media to a motor hub to form a data storage device include; securing the disc clamp with a mounting tool, which subsequently expands a central mounting aperture of the disc clamp for assembly of the disc clamp to the motor hub. Upon eschewing the mounting tool from the disc clamp, the motor hub constrains the disc clamp to develop a clamp force that is imparted on the storage media by an annular rib of the disc clamp to clamp the disc to the motor hub. The disc clamp is generally disc shaped and includes a central mounting aperture and a peripheral portion that includes the annular rib extending in a radial direction from the central mounting aperture. The annular rib pressingly engages the storage media to clamp storage media to the motor hub.
