A battery management system may include a plurality of balancing resistors respectively forming balancing discharging paths of cells connected in series to each other, a plurality of balancing switches respectively connected between the cells and the balancing resistors, and configured to control cell-balancing of each of the cells, a voltage-detecting circuit for detecting respective cell voltages of the cells, and a battery controller for acquiring respective balancing capacities of the cells based on the cell voltages, for obtaining duty cycles of the balancing switches according to the balancing capacities, and for scaling the duty cycles of the balancing switches according to a sum of duty cycles of two adjacent cells from among the cells.

Cell-balancing method and battery management system performing the same

A battery pack may include: a battery configured to include a plurality of cells; a cell balancing circuit configured to include a discharge circuit for each of the cells; a controller configured to output a first complete discharge command signal based on a control signal inputted from the outside; a mechanical switch configured to output a second complete discharge signal by mechanical manipulation; and a cell balancing controller configured to control the cell balancing circuit such that complete discharge of each cell is performed through the discharge circuits when the first complete discharge signal and the second complete discharge signal are received.

A voltage detection integrated circuit may include: a voltage detection circuit electrically connected to a plurality of cells to detect a cell voltage of a corresponding one of the plurality of cells; a plurality of cell balancing switches configured to conduct or block a flow of a balancing current of a corresponding cell among the plurality of cells; a temperature sensor configured to detect an internal temperature of the voltage detection integrated circuit; and a controller configured to differently select a number of cell balancing switches that are simultaneously turned on depending on the internal temperature, and to turn on the selected switches, when the internal temperature is below a first threshold value.

A battery management system includes a plurality of balancing resistors that are respectively connected to a plurality of cells that are connected in series to each other, and that respectively form a part of a balancing discharge path of each of the cells, a plurality of balancing switches configured to respectively control a flow of balancing current of the balancing discharge path, a voltage detection circuit configured to detect a voltage of opposite ends of a respective balancing resistor with respect to a balancing target cell among the cells when cell balancing is started, and a balancing control circuit configured to acquire a voltage cumulative value corresponding to a cumulative value of balancing discharge current of the balancing target cell using the voltage of the opposite ends of the respective balancing resistor, and configured to determine whether cell balancing on the balancing target cell is terminated based on the voltage cumulative value.

Battery management system

A battery pack includes a first battery with a first capacity, a second battery with a second capacity less than the first capacity, and a variable resistor. The second battery has a larger maximum discharge current than the first battery. The variable resistor circuit limits the discharge current of the first battery to a predetermined limit current value.
