Provided are a computer program product, system, and method for switching serialization techniques for handling concurrent write requests to a shared file. A first node serializes write requests from client nodes to write to the shared file. The first node determines whether to switch to a second node to manage write quests to the shared file based on a pattern of write requests to the shared file. The client nodes are notified to direct write requests to the shared file to the second node in response to determining to switch to the second node. The second node processes write requests to the shared file to serialize writes to the shared file after the client nodes are notified to submit the write requests to the shared file to the second node.

Switching serialization techniques for handling concurrent write requests to a shared file

Provided is a method for performing a file system consistency check. The method comprises calculating, by a first thread that does not have access to an inode table, file block addresses for one or more files to be checked by the thread. The method further comprises collecting validity information for the one or more files. The method further comprises reading information relating to the one or more files from the inode table. The reading is performed in response to the thread being given access to the inode table after the calculating operation. The method further comprises validating the information by comparing the information from the inode table to the validity information.

Reducing file system consistency check downtime

A method for prioritizing data in mounted filesystems for FSCK operations is disclosed. An apparatus and computer program product also perform the functions of the method. In certain embodiments, the method includes selecting a prioritization mode from a plurality of prioritization modes, assigning a rank, based on the selected prioritization mode, to files in a file system, and analyzing, according to the assigned rank, the files to identify corrupted files.

Prioritization of data in mounted filesystems for FSCK operations

A mechanism is provided in a data processing system comprising at least one processor and at least one memory, the at least one memory comprising instructions which are executed by the at least one processor and configure the processor to implement a file system consistency check utility on an erasure coded object storage architecture. Responsive to the file system consistency check utility determining a directory entry does not exist for a given file inode, the mechanism determines whether the given file is part of an erasure code schema of an object storage architecture. Responsive to the file system consistency check utility determining the given file/fragment is part of the erasure code schema, the mechanism determines a container (parent directory) for the given erasure code fragment, wherein the given fragment is a given error code fragment of an object, based on other erasure code fragments corresponding to the object and their placement schematics in the erasure code schema. Responsive to the file system consistency check utility determining the directory, the mechanism updates the directory entry with details of the given error code fragment.
