Compositions comprising a polyester resin and a polyamide derived from a dicarboxylic acid with 6-22 carbon atoms and from m-xylylene diamine having high-level gas barrier properties, obtained by mixing in the melted state the polyester resin premixed with a dianhydride of a tetracarboxylic acid and the polyamide, operating under conditions such as to render the polymeric componentstheologicallyrheologicallycompatiblewitheach other. The compositions are suitable for preparing containers and biaxially-orientated films.

Polyester resin blends with high-level gas barrier properties

Mono- or biaxially-stretched polyester resin foamed sheets and films wherein the polyester resin has a melt strength of more than 1 centinewton at 280&deg; C., a melt viscosity of at least 1500 Pa.s at 280&deg; C. for a shear ratio which tends to zero and a crystallization rate such that for a 10-minute heating at 120&deg; C. the crystallinity can reach values as high as 30-35%.

Polyester resin foamed sheet, mono e biaxially stretched usable for the production of containers for beverages and foods, having a density lower than 700 kg/m and a crystallization rate such that, when the sheet is heated at 120&deg; C. for 5 minutes, the crystallinity does not exceeds 15%. The aromatic polyester resin used for preparing the foamed sheet can be mixed with an aliphatic polyester resin to impart biodegradability and/or compostability to the sheet or with 1-10% by weight of a polyamide.

Polyester resin foamed sheet, usable for the production of containers for beverages and foods, having a density lower than 700 kg/m and crystallization rate such that, when the material is heated at 120&deg; C. for 5 minutes, the crystallinity does not reach values higher than 15%. The aromatic polyester resin used for preparing the foamed sheet can be mixed with an aliphatic polyester resin to impart biodegradability and/or compostability to the sheet.
