System and method for controlling electromagnetic spatial radiation over a region by coordination the utilization of multiple ambient backscatter (ABC) nodes and repositionable dynamic reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (RISs). Multiple coordinated ABCs are used to protect the region of primary use against the radiation due to the secondary users. Repositionable dynamic RISs provide more robustness to shadowing and power fluctuations in short time frame.

System and method for controlling electromagnetic radiation in a geographical area

Three-dimensional (3D) printing is implemented to introduce randomness into systems and devices that are being manufactured. 3D printed physically unclonable wireless systems (PUWS) provide flexibility in system package complexity, number of physically unclonable function (PUF) based security measures/types, and customization of the PUF parameters. Using flexibility and economics of 3D printing, PUWS can combine multiple PUF measures in a 3D package for cryptographic secret keys and introduce PUFs at the physical layer of the communication system. A 3D printed wireless system packaging concept is described herein where 3D printing parameters are randomized to 1) generate new physically unclonable functions (at the physical layer), 2) generate new physically unclonable functions within the system package (rather than at integrated circuit (IC) level), and 3) combine multiple physically unclonable functions (such as optical and electrical/VIA based ones) within single device structure.

Systems and methods may provide location-based security using multi-point cryptography. The method may include receiving, by a controller, an original message for secure delivery to a mobile terminal. The method may also include generating, by the controller, a plurality of messages to be delivered to the mobile terminal using geographic diversity. The method may further include sending, by the controller, the plurality of messages to geographically diverse transmitters for transmission to the mobile terminal.

A system and method utilizing a novel waveform structure based on unique word (UW)-orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) is proposed for the applications of joint radar-sensing and communication (JRC). A predetermined chirp sequence is used as the UW in the waveform. The predetermined chirp sequence is used to perform radar functionality, which also increases power efficiency of linear power amplifier that is critical for radar applications.

A system and method for frame structure compliant adaptive extensionless windowing that maximizes fair proportional network capacity in the download. Gains are provided by emulating the multipath multiple access channel to the base station to calculate almost-optimum transmitter windowing durations prior to transmission and using the variance of received symbols using different window durations to allow the user equipment nodes to estimate optimal receiver windowing durations without calculations requiring further knowledge about the network.

System and method for extensionless adaptive transmitter and receiver windowing

A system and method for reducing the OFDM out-of-band emissions (OOBE) and Inter-Numerology Interference (INI) in a mixed-numerology OFDM-based system by utilizing a transmitter windowing operation that smooths the inherent rectangular pulse shape of the OFDM signals. The technique retains the main design of the OFDM receivers and provides backward compatibility for the existing OFDM-based systems. The guard band and the multi-window parameters that control the guard duration are jointly optimized regarding the numerology, the use case and the power offset between the users. To fully exploit and further increase the potential of adaptive guards, an interference-based scheduling algorithm is proposed as well.

Various examples are provided related to hybrid multiple-input/multiple-output (MIMO) architectures. Beam steering can be provided using lens arrays. In one example, a hybrid antenna system includes a plurality of lens antenna subarrays (LAS), each of the LAS including a plurality of antenna elements configured to selectively receive a radio frequency (RF) transmission signal from RF processing circuitry, and a lens extending across the plurality of antenna elements. The RF transmission signal can be provided to a selected antenna of the plurality of antenna elements via a switching network and a common phase shifter for transmission. The lens can be configured to steer a RF transmission generated by the selected antenna in a defined direction. The selected antenna can be determined by the switching network configuration.

A system and method of steady-state visual evoked potential (SSVEP) frequency detection using bio-inspired filter banks (BIFB) includes, acquiring electroencephalographic (EEG) signals from a subject in response to a repetitive visual stimulus, estimating the power spectral density (PSD) of the channel of the EEG signals including at least one SSVEP response, extracting one or more SSVEP response features from the estimated PSD of the channel using a bio-inspired filter bank (BIFB) and classifying the extracted SSVEP response features to determine if the detected SSVEP response frequency from the EEG signals acquired from the subject substantially matches the repetition frequency of the repetitive visual stimulus.

A system and method for increasing the capacity of a Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) system at desired user's locations and reducing the capacity at locations, other than that of the desired user, while also providing secrecy. Knowing the channel coefficient between each transmitter and receiver antenna pair at the transmitter, the method of the present invention calculates the artificial signal that minimizes the Euclidean distance between the desired and received data symbols if the precoding/combining matrix pair from the set that has the minimum Euclidean distance to the singular value decomposition (SVD) of the channel matrix is used for transmission and reception. The artificial signal may be fed to the precoder, instead of the actual desired data symbols, or may be transmitted directly to reduce computational complexity, power consumption and processing delay if the hardware configuration allows.

Using artificial signals to maximize capacity and secrecy of multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) communication

System and method based upon an OFDM symbol, including a cyclic prefix (CP), that is received after being transmitted over a multiple access channel, wherein the CP is removed, and a Hann window is applied to the symbol. FFT is then applied to the Hann windowed symbol to obtain the frequency domain subcarriers. The pilot symbols are filtered accordingly to obtain Hann windowed pilots to estimate effective channel. Inter-carrier interference is calculated and removed.
