Glycoside products having a propensity to discolor (i.e., darken) under aqueous alkaline conditions are stabilized against discoloration under such conditions by treatment with from about 0.01 to about 2 weight percent (glycoside product dry weight basis) of a borohydride material such as sodium borohydride, potassium borohydride, lithium borohydride, etc.

Color stabilization method for glycoside products

Particulate detergent compositions are prepared by (a) forming an aqueous crutcher slurry having a total solids content of from about 40 to about 80 weight percent on a total weight basis and comprising a surfactant ingredient, al least about 0.1 weight percent (surfactant weight basis) of which is a glycoside surfactant; a builder ingredient; water; and, optionally, a filler ingredient and (b) thereafter drying said aqueous crutcher slurry. In an especially preferred embodiment, the glycoside surfactant is employed as an additive in a relatively small but effective amount (i.e., corresponding to less than about 2 weight percent on a dry solids weight basis) to provide reduced viscosity and/or enhanced homogeneity to the crutcher slurry compositions of interest.

Color stabilization of glycosides

A processed vegetable seed fiber, particularly corn and soybean fiber, for use in food products is disclosed. Processing is accomplished by heating an aqueous slurry of the crude vegetable seed fiber to about 155.degree.-180.degree. F., and then maintaining the pH of the heated slurry in the range of about 2.5 to 5.0. The elevated temperature of the slurry is maintained for up to about 15 to 60 minutes while the slurry is agitated. The resulting acid-pasteurized slurry is then dewatered to obtain a fiber material at about 20-30% dry solids. Fresh water is then added to the dewatered fiber material to reslurry it to about 3-4% dry solids. The reslurried fiber material is agitated at a temperature up to about 140.degree. F. for about fifteen to thirty minutes, dewatered a second time, and then dried to about 10% moisture.
