Techniques for controlling RF output of portable devices are described. In an example, an indication of a mode of a portable device is received. The mode is based on an inclination of the portable device. The inclination is measured in reference to a screen of the portable device and a horizontal surface. Based on the mode, an RF power level defined for the mode is determined. The RF power output of the portable device is controlled based on the RF power level.

Controlling radio frequency (RF) power output of portable devices

An example electronic device includes a first housing including, a first display, a first antenna, a second antenna, and a first rotational motion sensor. The electronic device also includes a hinge including a bend sensor. The electronic device further includes a second housing rotatable coupled to the first housing via the hinge. The second housing includes a second display, a third antenna, a fourth antenna, and a second rotational motion sensor. The electronic device further includes a communication device to select two of the first antenna, the second antenna, the third antenna, and the fourth antenna based on the first rotational motion sensor, the second rotational motion sensor, and the bend sensor. The communication device is also to transmit and receive data via each of the two selected antennas.

Antennas selection based on sensors

Examples of an integrated slot antenna are described. The integrated slot antenna comprises a first slot, a second slot and a separating member. The first slot is an open-ended slot and is coupled to a first antenna member to form a first slot antenna. The first slot antenna operates in a first predetermined range of frequencies. The second slot is a close-ended slot and is separated from the first slot by the separating member.

In example implementations, an antenna for a mobile device is provided. The antenna includes a printed circuit board and a plurality of metal members coupled to the printed circuit board. The printed circuit board is devoid of metal traces. The plurality of metal members is positioned along a length of the printed circuit board to operate at a desired frequency band when inserted into an opening along an outer edge perimeter of a metallic housing of the mobile device.

Invisible antennas

An antenna system with a bridged ground plane includes a printed circuit board, a first ground plane, a bridge, an antenna radiating element, an antenna connection, and at least one electronic component. The first ground plane is coupled to a first face of the printed circuit board. The bridge couples the first ground plane to the second ground plane. The antenna radiating element is coupled to the second ground plane via the antenna connection. The electronic component or components are coupled to a second face of the printed circuit board.

Antenna with bridged ground planes

An antenna device for a signal having a frequency within an operation band comprises a ground element, a radiating element short-circuited to the ground element, a positive feed connected to the radiating element, and a ground feed coupled to the ground element by a capacitive element. The capacitive element is a substantially open circuit for signals having a frequency lower than the operation band. The capacitive element is a substantially short circuit for signals having a frequency within or higher than the operation band.

Antenna devices

A sensor assembly is provided for a portable electronic device. The sensor assembly includes a proximity sensor and a module including shielding. The proximity sensor is connected to the shielding such that the shielding selectively functions as a sensor electrode for the proximity sensor.

Examples provide various systems and method associated with intercepting radio frequency interference. In various examples, a wireless integrated circuit module comprises radio frequency connectors. An RF interference shield covers the RF connectors to intercept and ground interference.
