A field sequential color display having a display panel and a backlight module is provided. The panel includes a plurality of unit regions, each having a first color unit region and a white color unit region. The panel includes a first substrate, a second substrate, a filter layer and a display medium. The first substrate has a pixel array. The second substrate is disposed opposite to the first substrate. The filter layer is disposed on the second substrate and has a first color filter pattern disposed within the first color unit regions and a white color filter pattern disposed within the white color unit regions. The display medium is between the first and second substrate. The backlight module is disposed at a side of the display panel and has a white light source, a second color light source and a third color light source which are switched in sequence.

Field sequential color display and driving method thereof

A pixel structure adapted to a vertical alignment (VA) mode liquid crystal display (LCD) device is provided. The pixel structure includes a plurality of comb-shaped electrodes and a plurality of pixel transistors. The comb-shaped electrodes are interdigitated in a pairwise manner and thereby constitute at least one comb-shaped electrode pair. The pixel transistors respectively are electrically coupled to the comb-shaped electrodes. The comb-shaped electrodes respectively are electrically coupled to receive a plurality of data voltages through the respective pixel transistors and whereby at least a part of the data voltages are different, and the data voltages received by the two comb-shaped electrodes of each comb-shaped electrode pair are different from each other. Moreover, a VA mode LCD device using the pixel structure and a pixel driving method adapted thereto are also provided.

A LCD panel in which a pixel has a first sub-pixel area and a second sub-pixel area, each area having a storage capacitor. Each pixel has a first gate line for providing a first gate-line signal for charging the first and second storage capacitors, and a second gate line for providing a second gate-line signal for removing part of the charges in the second storage capacitor to a third capacitor after the first gate-line signal has passed. The width of the first and second gate-line signals and their timing can be varied so that the first gate-line signal provided to a row can be used as the second gate-line signal to one of the preceding rows. In some embodiments, a pixel in each row has a duplicate pixel arranged to similarly receive the first and second gate-line signals, but data signals are received from different data lines.

Liquid crystal display panel with charge sharing scheme

A color filter array on pixel array substrate including a substrate, an active device array, a color filter array and a pixel electrode layer is provided. The substrate has a plurality of pixel regions and a light-shielding region. The active device array is disposed on the substrate. The color filter array is disposed on the substrate, and includes a light shielding patterned layer and a plurality of color filter patterns, wherein the light-shielding patterned layer is disposed in the light-shielding region. The color filter patterns are respectively disposed in the pixel regions and extend from the pixel regions into the light shielding regions, wherein the color filter patterns extending from adjacent pixel regions constitute a stacked structure within the light shielding regions. The pixel electrode layer is electrically connected to the active device array.

Liquid crystal display unit having particular sub-pixel units

A method for forming the alignment films on the substrate and a pixel structure of a liquid crystal display are disclosed. The pixel structure comprises a plurality of pixel units arranged in arrays. Each of the pixel units comprises a first substrate, a second substrate, two first alignment films and two second alignment films. The first alignment film is different from the second alignment film. The second substrate is disposed opposite to the first substrate. The two first alignment films and the two second alignment films are individually disposed on the first substrate and the second substrate, while each of the first alignment films is disposed substantially opposite to one of the second alignment films. The method for forming the alignment films comprises the following steps: (1) forming a trench on the substrate to divide each of the pixel units into a first sub-pixel area and a second sub-pixel area, (2) forming the first alignment film on the first sub-pixel area of the substrate and then, (3) forming a second alignment film on the second sub-pixel area of the substrate at last.

The display apparatus comprises a gate drive chip, a first gate line, a second gate line, a first pixel unit, and a second pixel unit. The gate driver is configured to generate a first gate drive signal and a second gate drive signal. The first and second gate drive signals are outputted to the first and second gate lines, respectively. An active device array substrate including a substrate, an active device array, a black matrix, a color filter, at least a pad, and at least a contact window is provided. The substrate has a display region and a periphery circuit region. The pad is disposed in the display region or the periphery circuit region and is constituted by at least one of a first conductive layer and a second conductive layer. The contact window is disposed on the pad, through which a third conductive layer is connected to the pad. The contact window is surrounded by at least two different types of light-shielding patterns, wherein each light-shielding pattern surrounds only a part of the periphery of the contact window. The light-shielding patterns are selected form at least two of the black matrix, the color filter, the first conductive layer, and the second conductive layer.
