A flexible optical element adopting liquid crystals (LCs) as the materials for realizing electrically tunable optics is foldable. A method for manufacturing the flexible element includes patterned photo-polymerization. The LC optics can include a pair of LC layers with orthogonally aligned LC directors for polarizer-free properties, flexible polymeric alignment layers, flexible substrates, and a module for controlling the electric field. The lens power of the LC optics can be changed by controlling the distribution of electric field across the optical zone. Lens power control can be provided using combinations of electrode configurations, drive signals and anchoring strengths in the alignment layers.

Flexible, adjustable lens power liquid crystal cells and lenses

A polarization independent optical phase modulator includes two substrates, two electrode layers, two alignment layers, and a liquid crystal layer. Each of alignment layers has first and second alignment regions each having a predetermined width in a transverse direction, which is not greater than a half of the wavelength of an incident light. In the liquid crystal layer, two adjacent ones of liquid crystal elements in the transverse direction are aligned respectively by two adjacent ones of the first and second alignment regions in two predetermined orientations which are orthogonal to each other, thereby permitting phase modulation of the incident light to be independent of the polarization of the incident light.

Polarization independent optical phase modulator

A liquid crystal photoelectric apparatus including an upper substrate, a lower substrate, a plurality of alignment layers, and a liquid crystal material is provided. The alignment layers include an upper alignment layer, a lower alignment layer, and at least one intermediate alignment layer. The upper alignment layer has a first orientation direction. The lower alignment layer has a second orientation direction. The at least one intermediate alignment layer has an intermediate orientation direction. The intermediate orientation direction is between the first orientation direction and the second orientation direction. The liquid crystal material includes a plurality of liquid crystal material portions. Each of the liquid crystal material portions is disposed between any adjacent two alignment layers. A manufacturing method of the liquid crystal photoelectric apparatus is also provided.

An electrically tunable focusing achromatic lens includes a first liquid crystal cell, a second liquid crystal cell, and first and second electrode layer units which have two predetermined patterns for permitting two predetermined radially varying electric fields to be generated to across the first and second liquid crystal cells, respectively, to thereby allow one of the first and second liquid crystal cells to acquire a predetermined positive optical power and the other one of the first and second liquid crystal cells to acquire a predetermined negative optical power. When an incident light passes through the first and second liquid crystal cells, chromatic aberration of the first liquid crystal cell can be counterbalanced by that of the second liquid crystal cell.

Electrically tunable focusing achromatic lens

An electrically focus-tunable lens of an active matrix type includes a basic lens and a transparent phase modulator which includes a first transparent substrate, a second transparent substrate, a liquid crystal layer, a common electrode unit, a phase modulation electrode unit, and an array of thin film transistors. Each liquid crystal portion of the liquid crystal layer is independently controlled by applying a predetermined voltage between the common electrode and a corresponding one of data electrode strips of the phase modulation electrode unit to provide each pixel area of the transparent phase modulator with an independent refractive index so as to create a phase modulation profile for the transparent phase modulator.

Electrically focus-tunable lens and eyewear including the same

The present invention is a safety covering design for financial transaction device, simply constructing specific solid connection between boards by the pressure formed after assembly. The pressure is formed with assembly and constructing connection of units, so illegally penetration can be easily detected, because the pressure is released by disassembly as well as the connection between boards is removed. Thus, the financial transaction device of the present invention is not easy being penetrated without alarm.

Safety cover design for financial transaction device

A liquid crystal (LC) lens structure and a method of driving same are disclosed. The LC lens structure includes an upper substrate, a lower substrate, a liquid crystal and polymer composite film, and an LC layer. The upper substrate is provided with a first conducive layer and a first alignment layer; and the lower substrate is provided with a second conductive layer and a second alignment layer. The liquid crystal and polymer composite film is arranged at one side of the first alignment layer to form a first lens, and the LC layer is arranged between the liquid crystal and polymer composite film and the second alignment layer to form a second lens. By building the liquid crystal and polymer composite film in the LC lens structure, it is able to realize an LC lens with low operating voltage and large focusing range.

Liquid crystal lens structure and method of driving same

A method for providing auto focus for camera module that is electrically tunable using liquid crystal optical element is provided. The liquid crystal optical element includes substrate layers, insulating layer, three electrodes, liquid crystal layer between the substrate layers, and voltages applied between electrodes to control the optical power of the liquid crystal layer. The liquid crystal layer is coupled onto a camera module for provide auto focus on object located between 10 cm to infinity, achieving a response time at most of about 600 milliseconds. Tuning for the predetermined focal length is provided for liquid crystal optical element when object is located between 10 cm to infinity.
