Quantum dots that are cadmium-free and/or stoichiometrically tuned are disclosed, as are methods of making them. Inclusion of the quantum dots and others in a stabilizing polymer matrix is also disclosed. The polymers are chosen for their strong binding affinity to the outer layers of the quantum dots such that the bond dissociation energy between the polymer material and the quantum dot is greater than the energy required to reach the melt temperature of the cross-linked polymer.

Cadmium-free quantum dots, tunable quantum dots, quantum dot containing polymer, articles, films, and 3D structure containing them and methods of making and using them

Methods and compositions for electrodepositing mixed metal reactive metal layers by combining reactive metal complexes with electron withdrawing agents are provided. Modifying the ratio of one reactive metal complex to the other and varying the current density can be used to vary the morphology the metal layer on the substrate.

Methods and compositions for electrochemical deposition of metal rich layers in aqueous solutions

Provided herein are compositions, CO-permeable/selective membranes and related methods of making and using the membranes. Ionically cross-linked poly(ether)-based membranes were prepared for applications relating to CO. These films were studied for their thermal curing behavior using DSC. The resulting free-standing membranes have Ts near &#x2212;64&#xb0; C., TS up to 230&#xb0; C., and Young's modulus up to 4.2 MPa. These membranes showed COpermeabilities of 84-110 Barrer and CO/Nselectivity of 20-40.

Ionic cross-linked polymeric films for gas separation

Exemplary embodiments relate to methods for removal of COand other acid gases from gaseous fuels prior to combustion. Exemplary methods may be used for COcapture, Hpurification and natural gas sweetening. Exemplary methods use at least one ionic liquid that has excellent COsolubility, selectivity over hydrogen, low viscosity, and resistance to HS.

Sulfur tolerant hydrophobic ionic liquid solvent

Herein, we describe polymerized ionic liquids, demonstrate the synthesis of polymerized ionic liquids, and demonstrate the polymerization of triazolium monomers. One embodiment shows the polymeriazation of the triazolium monomers with bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide anions. In another embodiment we show the feasibility of copolymerizing with commodity monomers such as styrene using free radical polymerization techniques.

Synthesis and polymerization of vinyl triazolium ionic liquids

Methods and compositions useful, for example, for physical solvent carbon capture. A method comprising: contacting at least one first composition comprising carbon dioxide with at least one second composition to at least partially dissolve the carbon dioxide of the first composition in the second composition, wherein the second composition comprises at least one siloxane compound which is covalently modified with at least one non-siloxane group comprising at least one heteroatom. Polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) materials and ethylene-glycol based materials have high carbon dioxide solubility but suffer from various problems. PDMS is hydrophobic but suffers from low selectivity. Ethylene-glycol based systems have good solubility and selectivity, but suffer from high affinity to water. Solvents were developed which keep the desired combinations of properties, and result in a simplified, overall process for carbon dioxide removal from a mixed gas stream.

High performance hydrophobic solvent, carbon dioxide capture

Mixed Matrix Membrane (MMM) are composite membranes for gas separation and comprising a quantity of inorganic filler particles, in particular metal organic framework (MOF), dispersed throughout a polymer matrix comprising one or more polymers. This disclosure is directed to MOF functionalized through addition of a pendant functional group to the MOF, in order to improve interaction with a surrounding polymer matrix in a MMM. The improved interaction aids in avoiding defects in the MMM due to incompatible interfaces between the polymer matrix and the MOF particle, in turn increasing the mechanical and gas separation properties of the MMM. The disclosure is also directed to a MMM incorporating the surface functionalized MOF.

Surface functionalization of metal organic frameworks for mixed matrix membranes

Methods and compositions relating to poly(hydroxyl urethane) compounds are described herein that are useful as, among other things, binders and adhesives. The cross-linked composition is achieved through the reaction of a cyclic carbonate, a compound having two or more thiol groups, and a compound having two or more amine functional groups. In addition, a method of adhesively binding two or more substrates using the cross-linked composition is provided.

Poly(hydroxyl urethane) compositions and methods of making and using the same

The present invention relates to compositions of matter that are ionic liquids, the compositions comprising substituted 1,2,3-triazolium cations combined with any anion. Compositions of the invention should be useful in the separation of gases and, perhaps, as catalysts for many reactions.
