A polarization plate includes a first protective film, a polarizer, and a second protective film in this order, in which the first protective film is a film including a (meth)acryl-based resin, a thickness of the first protective film is in a range of 20 &#x3bc;m to 30 &#x3bc;m, a thickness of the second protective film is in a range of 1.5 times to 1.8 times of the thickness of the first protective film, and a humidity dimensional change ratio of the second protective film in the direction orthogonal to an absorption axis of the polarizer is in a range of 0.45% to 0.8%.

Disclosed is an optical film in which a minute interference unevenness is reduced. The optical film comprises a transparent film having a thickness of 10 &#x3bc;m to 150 &#x3bc;m, and a first layer and a second layer, in this order, on the transparent film, wherein values of in-plain mean refractive indices thereof satisfy the formula: the second layer&#x3e;the first layer&#x3e;the transparent film; the difference in in-plane mean refractive indices between the first layer and the second layer and the difference in in-plane mean refractive indices between the first layer and the transparent film are each 0.02 or more; and the optical thickness D of the first layer satisfies the formula: 270&#xd7;N&#x2212;150&#x2212;75 nm&#x2266;D&#x2266;270&#xd7;N&#x2212;150+75 nm (1&#x2266;N&#x2266;8 where N is a natural number).
