A system and method can include determining a location of a locating device disposed onboard a vehicle system, identify a size of the vehicle system, calculate a duration that the vehicle system has been blocking or will be blocking an intersection between at least two intersecting routes based at least in part on the location of the locating device and on the size of the multi-vehicle system, and implement one or more responsive actions to clear the intersection responsive to the calculation of the duration. Optionally, the system and method can predict or forecast whether a vehicle system approaching or moving through the intersection will come to a stop in a locking that blocks the intersection, and implement one or more responsive actions.

A method of energy dispatch for an energy storage device component of a local energy generation plant, the method including obtaining a charge/discharge profile for the energy storage device, quantifying an amount of energy generation available from energy source components of the local energy generation plant, accessing a degradation factor for the energy storage device, forecasting a future cost for storing energy in the energy storage device, evaluating the future cost, providing instruction to an energy storage plant control unit to increase energy storage in the energy storage device based on a result of the evaluation, else, instructing the energy storage plant control unit to decrease energy storage in the energy storage device, and shedding power from the energy source components if a recommendation to shed power was provided. A system for implementing the method and a non-transitory computer-readable medium are also disclosed.

Methods and systems for energy storage dispatch

A system and method are provided for controlling a wind turbine. Accordingly, a controller of the wind turbine detects a loss of traction of the slip coupling based on a difference between data indicative of a rotor operating parameter and data indicative of a generator operating parameter. The controller then determines an angle of slip corresponding to the loss of traction as a function of the difference. Based, at least partially on the angle of slip, a degradation value for the slip coupling is determined. A control action is implemented based on the degradation value.

System and method for controlling a wind turbine

A system includes a locator device and one or more processors operably connected to the locator device. The locator device determines a trailing distance between a trailing vehicle system that travels along a route and a leading vehicle system that travels along the route ahead of the trailing vehicle system in a same direction of travel. The one or more processors compare the trailing distance to a first proximity distance relative to the leading vehicle system. In response to the trailing distance being less than the first proximity distance, the one or more processors set a permitted power output limit for the trailing vehicle system to be less than a maximum achievable power output for the trailing vehicle system, the permitted power output limit being set based on a power-to-weight ratio of the leading vehicle system.

A method for controlling an energy generation and storage system using a multi-layer architecture is provided. The method includes determining, by one or more control devices, a power or energy generation for the energy generation and storage system at a first layer of the multi-layer architecture. The method includes determining, by the one or more control devices, a power or energy set point for the system at a second layer of the multi-layer architecture. The method includes controlling, by the one or more control devices, the energy generation and storage system based, at least in part, on the power or energy setpoint.

System and method for controlling operation of an energy generation and storage system

Systems and methods of controlling a dispatch operation of an energy storage system are provided. In particular, a degradation value of a present dispatch state of an energy storage system can be determined. The present dispatch state can specify one or more energy storage units presently coupled to the system. The degradation value can be determined based at least in part on one or more operating parameters, such as temperature, open circuit voltage, charge or discharge current, and/or contactor life. The degradation value can then be compared against one or more degradation values associated with one or more candidate dispatch states. A dispatch state can then be selected based on the comparison. One or more energy storage units can be selectively coupled to the energy storage system based at least in part on the selected dispatch state.

Controlling a dispatch operation of an energy storage system

A convoy management system and method determine determining an inter-vehicle spacing in a convoy formed from two or more vehicles traveling together along one or more routes. Controllers onboard the two or more vehicles are instructed to automatically change movement of at least one of the vehicles in the convoy to maintain the inter-vehicle spacing. The inter vehicle spacing is dynamically changed during movement of the convoy along the one or more routes.

Vehicle convoy control system and method

A system includes a locator device, a communication circuit, and one or more processors, all disposed onboard a trailing vehicle system that travels along a route behind a leading vehicle system. The locator device determines a location of the trailing vehicle system. The communication circuit periodically receives a location of the leading vehicle system in a message. The processors monitor a trailing distance between the trailing vehicle system and the leading vehicle system based on the respective locations of the leading and trailing vehicle systems. Responsive to the trailing distance being less than a first proximity distance relative to the leading vehicle system, the processors set an upper permitted power output limit for the trailing vehicle system that is less than an upper power output limit of the trailing vehicle system to reduce an effective power-to-weight ratio of the trailing vehicle system.

A method for sensing a position of a lead wire during winding of a wire on a coil form to form a precision coil is provided. The method includes acquiring data representative of at least a portion of the precision coil, identifying portions of the acquired data that represent the wire in the precision coil, and determining a position of the lead wire on the coil form from the identified portions of the acquired data.
