In some aspects, an electronic device may display a keyboard user interface on a touchscreen display panel. The electronic device may detect a key press interaction with the keyboard user interface. The electronic device may trigger one or more haptic actuators to generate a vibration waveform associated with a haptic pattern that is based at least in part on a context associated with the key press interaction. Numerous other aspects are described.

Audio and haptic signal processing systems and methods are provided. There is provided a method for haptic drive signal generation. The method comprises receiving an input audio signal for driving an audio speaker. The method further comprises deriving, from the audio signal, data components indicative of behaviour of the audio speaker when being driven by the input audio signal, each data component being associated with a respective frequency range. The method further comprises determining a haptic drive component from each data component. A gain is selected to provide to each of the haptic drive components, the gain being selected for each respective frequency range. Each selected gain is applied to the respective haptic drive component to produce gain adjusted haptic drive components. A haptic drive signal is determined from the gain adjusted haptic drive components, the haptic drive signal being so as to produce a mechanical behaviour of the haptic actuator when the haptic drive signal is used to drive the haptic actuator.

Audio and haptic signal processing

A method includes receiving first data associated with a first power amplifier and second data associated with a second power amplifier. The method also includes generating a first amplitude limiting signal having gain parameters that are based on the first data and the second data. The first data includes at least one of a temperature measurement associated with the first power amplifier, a supply voltage measurement associated with the first power amplifier, a load resistance associated with the first power amplifier, or a gain associated with the first power amplifier. The method further includes modifying an audio signal based at least in part on the first amplitude limiting signal to generate a first gain-adjusted audio signal. The method also includes providing a first output audio signal to the first power amplifier for amplification. The first output audio signal is based at least in part on the first gain-adjusted audio signal.

Innovative techniques to design and generate haptics waveforms are proposed. The proposed techniques enable consistent haptics user-experience to be enable despite variations among different haptic actuators. Arbitrary waveforms may be generated without selecting from a list of pre-determined waveforms.

Techniques for mute pattern injection for a pulse-density modulation microphone are described. In one or more implementations, a pulse-density modulation (PDM) microphone includes a transducer that receives a pressure wave and produces an analog signal that represents the pressure wave, an analog-to-digital converter (ADC) that receives the analog signal from the transducer and converts the analog signal into a digital PDM signal. The PDM microphone also includes a pattern generator that generates a digital mute signal, a controller that outputs control signals, and a multiplexer that receives the control signals, the digital mute signal, and the digital PDM signal. The multiplexer transmits the digital mute signal or the digital PDM signal, responsive to the control signals.

Methods and apparatuses are presented for controlling an application on a device. In some embodiments, a method may include detecting that a user is maintaining an object or gesture at a position hovering near the device for a threshold length of time. The method may also include anchoring an initial position of the object or gesture to the device based on the detection of the maintained position, and controlling the application using the anchored initial position. In some embodiments, controlling the application using the anchored initial position may include manipulating the application based on detecting within a stable zone associated with the anchored initial position a change in height of the gesture or object relative to the device, and not manipulating the application whenever the object or gesture is detected to move along a plane above and parallel to the device and within the stable zone.

Methods for system engagement via 3D object detection

A user interface, methods and article of manufacture each for selecting an audio cue presented in three-dimensional (3D) space are disclosed. The audio cues are audibly perceivable in a space about a user, where each of the audio cues may be perceived by the user as a directional sound at a distinct location from other audio cues in the space. Selection of a specific audio cue is made based on one or more user gestures. A portable electronic device may be configured to present the audio cues perceived by a user and detect certain user gestures to select audio cues. The audio cue selection can be used to control operation of the portable device and/or other associated devices.

An electronic device for controlling noise is described. The electronic device includes a force sensor for detecting a force on the electronic device. The electronic device also includes noise control circuitry for generating a noise control signal based on a noise signal and the force. Another electronic device for controlling noise is also described. The electronic device includes a speaker that outputs a runtime ultrasound signal, an error microphone that receives a runtime ultrasound channel signal and noise control circuitry coupled to the speaker and to the error microphone. The noise control circuitry determines at least one calibration parameter and determines a runtime channel response based on the runtime ultrasound channel signal. The noise control circuitry also determines a runtime placement based on the runtime channel response and the at least one calibration parameter and determines at least one runtime active noise control parameter based on the runtime placement.

A method includes detecting a signal at a first set of receivers of a plurality of receivers of a device. The plurality of receivers includes the first set of receivers and a second set of receivers. The first set of receivers corresponds to selected receivers and the second set of receivers corresponds to non-selected receivers. The method includes predicting, based on the signal, an expected blockage of a signal path between a source of the signal and a first selected receiver of the first set of receivers, and selecting a particular receiver of the second set of receivers as a newly selected receiver in response to predicting the expected blockage.

A computing device includes a touch screen display with a plurality of force sensors, each of which provides a signal in response to contact with the touch screen display. Using force signals from the plurality of force sensors, a characteristic of the contact is determined, such as the magnitude of the force, the centroid of force and the shear force. The characteristic of the contact is used to select a command which is processed to control the computing device. For example, the command may be related to manipulating data displayed on the touch screen display, e.g., by adjusting the scroll speed or the quantity of data selected in response to the magnitude of force, or related to an operation of an application on the computing device, such as selecting different focal ranges, producing an alarm, or adjusting the volume of a speaker in response to the magnitude of force.

A method includes accessing signal data descriptive of a transmission sequence and pre-determined values associated with the transmission sequence. The signal data and the pre-determined values may be stored in a memory. The method includes transmitting a signal from a speaker of an electronic device according to the transmission sequence. The method includes generating a frame based on one or more signals received at a microphone of the electronic device. The one or more signals include an echo signal associated with the transmitted signal. The method includes processing the frame using the pre-determined values to produce an output frame in which a contribution associated with the echo signal is reduced.

An aspect includes determining whether or not a pen is within a threshold distance of the touchscreen, storing trace information generated by a user's touch in a touch buffer if the pen is not within the threshold distance of the touchscreen, and clearing the touch buffer and storing trace information generated by the pen in the touch buffer if the pen is within the threshold distance of the touchscreen.

The embodiments provide systems and methods for touchless sensing and gesture recognition using continuous wave sound signals. Continuous wave sound, such as ultrasound, emitted by a transmitter may reflect from an object, and be received by one or more sound receivers. Sound signals may be temporally encoded. Received sound signals may be processed to determine a channel impulse response or calculate time of flight. Determined channel impulse responses may be processed to extract recognizable features or angles. Extracted features may be compared to a database of features to identify a user input gesture associated with the matched feature. Angles of channel impulse response curves may be associated with an input gesture. Time of flight values from each receiver may be used to determine coordinates of the reflecting object. Embodiments may be implemented as part of a graphical user interface. Embodiments may be used to determine a location of an emitter.
