A touch sensing film structure including a touch-sensitive device layer, a water/oxygen barrier layer and a flexible substrate is provided. The touch-sensitive device layer has a first surface and a second surface opposite to the first surface. The water/oxygen barrier layer is formed on the first surface or the second surface or integrated with the touch-sensitive device layer to form a multi-function layer. The flexible substrate can stack with the water/oxygen barrier layer and the touch-sensitive device layer, or stack with the multi-function layer.

Touch sensing film structure

A brightness enhanced self-luminous type display including a self-luminous display panel and a brightness enhancement stacked layer is provided. The self-luminous display panel includes pixels arranged in array, wherein each pixel includes light-emitting sub-pixels displaying different colors. The brightness enhancement stacked layer is disposed on the self-luminous display panel. The brightness enhancement stacked layer includes an absorptive polarizer layer, a phase retardation layer and a reflective polarizer layer. The reflective polarizer layer is between the self-luminous display panel and the phase retardation layer. The phase retardation layer is between the absorptive polarizer layer and the reflective polarizer layer. The reflective polarizer layer includes reflective polarizer blocks arranged in array. Each reflective polarizer block is disposed over one of the light-emitting sub-pixels correspondingly, and a wavelength of maximum intensity of each light-emitting sub-pixel is respectively within a wavelength band of light effectively reflected and polarized by the corresponding reflective polarizer block.

Brightness enhanced self-luminous display

The invention provides a broadband cholesteric liquid crystal film, a method for fabricating the same, a polarization device employing the same, and high light efficiency liquid crystal display employing the same. The cholesteric liquid crystal film is a single-layer liquid crystal material structure, and has a top surface and a bottom surface. Further, the cholesteric liquid crystal film includes a first region, a second region, and a third region, and the first region is adjacent to the top surface of the cholesteric liquid crystal film, the third region is adjacent to the bottom surface of the cholesteric liquid crystal film, and the second region is located between the first and third regions, and the average helical pitch Pof the first region and the average helical pitch Pof the third region are both larger than the average helical pitch Pof the second region.

Broadband cholesteric liquid crystal film, method for fabricating the same, polarization device, and high light efficiency liquid crystal display employing the same

A light efficiency enhancing optical device is disclosed, including a cholesteric liquid crystal film, a quarter wave plate disposed on a light out-going surface of the cholesteric liquid crystal film and an optical compensating film disposed on a light out-going surface of the quarter wave plate, wherein the optical compensating film includes a positive birefringence C-plate, and a composite optical compensating film with combination of the optical compensating film and the quarter wave plate has in-plane phase retardation Rof 100 nm&#x2dc;170 nm and out-of-plane phase retardation Rof 0 nm&#x2dc;400 nm.

Light efficiency enhancing optical devices

Optical elements and backlight modules employing the same are provided. The optical element can be a brightness enhancement diffusion complex film, comprising a cholesteric liquid crystal film and a transparent optical film directly disposed on the cholesteric liquid crystal film. Particularly, the whole transparent optical film directly contacts to the cholesteric liquid crystal film, in the absence of an intermediate located between the transparent optical film and the cholesteric liquid crystal film.

Optical elements, backlight modules, and liquid crystal display employing the same

A gas sensor cell using a liquid crystal composite material is provided. The gas sensor cell has recovery capability and can be reused. Upon gas adsorption, the liquid crystal composite material has visually detectable color changes and changes in electrical properties to facilitate the measurement of gas concentration from low to high.

Liquid crystal gas sensor cell and the use thereof

An actuator and a method for using the same are provided. The actuator includes a flexible element and a photoelectric layer. The flexible element includes an elastic layer or a piezoelectric layer. The photoelectric layer is disposed on a side of the flexible element. An electrical characteristic of the photoelectric layer is determined according to an irradiation condition of the photoelectric layer.

Actuator and method for using the same

The present invention provides an optical film with functions of light collimating, light polarization for brightness enhancement and limiting viewing angle and a method for preparing the same. The optical film includes a plurality of layers of a cholesteric liquid crystal film bound together via an optical adhesive and a quarter-wavelength retardation plate bound with the cholesteric liquid crystal film via the optical adhesive. Therein, at least one layer of the cholesteric liquid crystal film has a polarized separated wavelength range covering the wavelength range of visible light of three primary colors of red, green and blue.

Optical film

A color filter having a bi-layer metal grating is formed by nanoimprint lithography. Nanoimprint lithography, a low cost technology, includes two alternatives, i.e., hot-embossing nanoimprint lithography and UV-curable nanoimprint lithography. Manufacture steps includes providing a substrate with a polymer material layer disposed thereon. A plurality of lands and grooves are formed in the polymer material layer, and a first metal layer and a second metal layer are disposed on the surfaces of the lands and grooves, respectively. Finally, a color filter having a bi-layer metal grating is obtained.

Color filter and method of fabricating the same

A light source module for generating polarized light includes a light emitting element, a reflector, and an optical element. The light emitting element generates a light ray, and the reflector reflects the light ray towards the optical element. The optical element includes a light splitting face and a reflection face. The light splitting face receives the light ray, and an angle between the light splitting face and the incident light ray is at about a Brewster's Angle. After the light ray is irradiated to the light splitting face, the light ray is divided into a refraction light and a reflection light. The reflection face reflects the refraction light, and the reflection face is substantially perpendicular to a path of the refraction light. Therefore, a light source with a high degree of polarization is realized by a design of the light splitting face and the reflection face.

Light source module for generating polarized light

A display material and method and device thereof are provided. The display material is first formed by evenly mixing appropriate weight ratios of DFLCs, incurable nanoparticles, curable nanoparticles, and a photoinitiator. Next, the evenly mixed mixture is disposed between two parallel conducting transparent substrates, wherein an electrical field is conducted thereto and the DFLCs therein aligned to the direction of the applied electrical field. Concurrently, under the applied electrical field, some curable nanoparticles within the evenly mixed mixture, form short nano chains, initiating the photo initiator. The frame structure of short nano chains stabilize both the clear and scattering states, thereby the bistable characteristic was improved and the contrast ratio was enhanced as applied to bistable displays.

Bistable display materials and methods and devices thereof

A low color shift polarizer assembly is provided, comprising a cholesteric liquid crystal film with a plurality of very tiny grooves which are irregularly dispersed on a surface of the cholesteric liquid crystal film. The selective reflective wavelength range of the cholesteric liquid crystal film has a long wavelength boundary &#x2267;700 nm and a short wavelength boundary &#x2266;420 nm. A quarter wavelength retardation plate can be disposed on the cholesteric liquid crystal film to build up the final low color shift polarizer assembly. The polarizer assembly can be combined with a backlight unit and further with a liquid crystal display to provide low color shift at large viewing angles and high brightness.

Low color shift polarizer assembly, and back light units and liquid crystal displays containing the same

A high transmittance brightness enhanced optical element for backlight modules and liquid crystal display device is disclosed. The brightness enhanced polarizing optical element comprises a reflective polarizer film, a phase retardation film, and a polarization enhancement film. The reflective polarizer film provides a function of selectively reflecting right-handness circularly polarized light or left-handness circularly polarized light and will transmit the other one of them. The one was selectively reflected will be recombined with the light source or the backlight and re-direct toward the reflective polarizer. The portions of the reflective light will be recombined with the fresh light from the light source as above and the processes repeatedly. As a result, almost all of the light transmit the reflective polarizer and in the same circular polarization. The light is then transmitted the phase retardation film and converted to a polarized light with another optical axis.

High transmittance brightness enhanced optical element for LCD by wholly coating process

A bi-stable projection screen includes a light diffusion unit and a bi-stable display unit stacked together. The bi-stable display unit, when actuated, selectively operates in a first mode or a second mode. When operating in the first mode (e.g., a transmission mode or a reflection mode), the bi-stable display unit receives a projection light from a front projection or a rear projection, and emits the projection light after modulation. When operating in the second mode (a non-transmission mode or a non-reflection mode), the bi-stable display unit is a pattern to become a part of a scene. The light diffusion unit receives and diffuses the modulated projection light to be perceived by human eyes.

Bi-stable projection screen

A polarizer-alignment dual function film. The film comprising an optically anisotropic material layer having a plurality of strips integrally formed thereon. The strips provide an alignment function for aligning the liquid crystal molecules while the optically anisotropic material provides a polarization function such that the two functions can be integrated into a single-layered film.
