The invention relates to a composition, in pellet form, useful for the nutritional and/or medicinal supplementation of ruminants and a method for admixing the pellets with foodstuff. The pellet contains granules of one or more active ingredients/principles protected against degradation in toe rumen and one or more binding agents capable of being solubilized, crosslinked or melted. Optionally, the pellet may also contain an unprotected active ingredient for release in the rumen. The pellet may further contain a disintegrating agent and/or filler.

Particles of active substance are encapsulated by spraying them with a thermoplastic silicone copolymer in solution in an organic solvent or in an aqueous dispersion or emulsion and removing the solvent or water by drying with hot air. The spraying/drying process employed is, for example, the Wurster process. The copolymer employed can be made up of a succession of polydiorganosiloxane segments or blocks and of organic segments or blocks (polyesters, polyethers, polyurethanes, polystyrenes, and the like). It can also be a polydiorganosiloxane grafted with organic chains. The active substance is in the form of particles with a particle size of between 50 .mu.m and 5 mm. It may be a catalyst, a perfume, a colorant, a cosmetic product, a medication, a plant-protection product, plant seeds, and the like. The invention is especially useful for controlling the release of active substance in an aqueous medium.

Novel organosoluble derivatives of chitosan, useful in coating biologically active feedstuff additives intended for ruminants, to provide coatings which are stable at a pH greater than 5 and which release the biologically active substance at a pH below 3.5, consist of a random chain of units represented by the formulae: ##STR1## in which: R.sub.1 represents an alkylcarbonyl radical (2 to 4 carbon atoms), R.sub.2 represents an alkyl radical (2 to 21 carbon atoms) or an optionally substituted phenyl radical, and R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 represent a hydrogen atom or alkylcarbonyl radicals (2 to 4 carbon atoms).

Polyaddition silicone elastomer dosage forms adapted for the continuous and controlled release of iodine values, notably to domestic water supplies for the treatment of the various disease states attributed to iodine deficiency, are shaped from (A) at least one organopolysiloxane containing at least two vinyl groups bonded to silicon per molecule; (B) at least one organopolysiloxane containing at least three hydrogen atoms bonded to silicon; (C) a catalytically effective amount of a platinum group metal compound; and (D) a therapeutically effective amount of at least one water soluble, nontoxic, organic and/or inorganic iodine compound which is in solid or liquid state at ambient temperature and which does not inhibit the catalytic activity of the platinum group metal compound (C).

Polyaddition silicone elastomer dosage forms for the controlled release

A process for treating a polysilazane, characterized in that a polysilazane possessing on average at least two, and preferably at least three, hydrocarbon groups having aliphatic unsaturation per molecule is treated catalytically in the presence of a catalytically efficient amount of a co-ordination catalyst. The polysilazanes treated in this manner possess high thermal resistance and can be used, in particular, as precursors of ceramic products, with a high yield of inorganic product.
