The method of the invention provides means of destroying highly stable metal cyanide ions found in a solution, and converting the cyanide to harmless by-products. Contrary to conventional methods which merely complex the cyanide into a mechanically or physically removable complex, the present method destroys the cyanide found in the sample. The invention is directed to a method of destroying cyanide comprising providing a highly alkaline solution containing a metal cyanide ions; and subjecting the solution to electro-oxidation.

Electrochemical removal of dissociable cyanides

Ores containing copper, zinc, silver in the form of sulfides are treated by a solution of sulfurated sulfite ions and ammonium ions in order to remove most of the metals from the sulfide ores. This treatment renders the resulting gold bearing ores much more amenable to cyanide extraction. Dissolved metals are reclaimed by appropriate techniques, such as electrowinning or liquid-liquid extraction, and the solution of sulfurated sulfites and ammonia is recycled for further lixiviation of fresh ores.

Process for removing and recovering copper, silver and zinc from sulfide

A process and an apparatus for manufacturing electrocatalytic electrodes. The process comprises the steps of immersing a substrate in a plating bath containing metal ions and electrocatalytic material in particles form, such as Ni, NiAl, and CoAl, among others. Electric current is established in the bath inducing a deposition of metal on the substrate by reduction of metal ions and, simultaneously, the cell containing the plating bath is inverted periodically to cause a recurrent migration of the particles of electrocatalytic material, under the effect of gravity, toward the substrate, in order to build-up a layer of electrocatalytic material on the substrate, the particles of the electrocatalytic material being fixed on the substrate by the reduction of metal ions.

Process and apparatus for manufacturing an electrocatalytic electrode

A pressure-molded, rigid, high surface cathodic or anodic electrode of low electrical resistance and good mechanical strength and resistance to corrosion comprising non-dissolving, electrically-conducting metal particles of high specific surfaces and fractal structure which are bound with up to 15% by weight of aluminum phosphate.

Industrial exhaust polyaromatic hydrocarbons are readily absorbed by flowing through a bed of dry porous pellets consisting of a mixture of natural magnesium silicate selected from short chrysotile asbestos fibers, attapulgite and mixtures thereof with a cementitious clay binder, the latter representing from 1 to 20% by weight of the dry pellets, whereby substantially all the particulate and gaseous pollutants present in the exhaust material are adsorbed by the dry porous pellets.

The invention relates to a process for degrading polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons adsorbed over chrysotile asbestos fibers which comprises oxidizing in the presence of moisture with ozone a mass of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons adsorbed on chrysotile asbestos fibers, whereby the hydrocarbons are degraded mainly to carbon dioxide and substantially pure chrysotile asbestos is recovered.
