The invention relates to a reflector for an infrared radiating element. The reflector comprises a metal foil coated with&#x2014;a first oxide layer deposited on the metal foil; &#x2014;an infrared reflecting metal layer deposited on said first oxide layer; and&#x2014;a second oxide layer deposited on said infrared reflecting layer. The first oxide layer is functioning as a diffusion barrier layer and is preventing the diffusion of the metal of the infrared reflecting layer in the substrate. The second oxide layer is functioning as a protective layer for the infrared reflecting layer giving the infrared reflecting layer the required thermal stability.

Reflector for an infrared radiating element

The invention relates to an infra-red reflecting layered structure comprising a transparent substrate layer; a first metal oxide layer; a first silver containing layer, a second metal oxide layer; a second silver containing layer and a third metal oxide layer. The first, second and third metal oxide layer have a refractive index of at least 2.40 at a wavelength of 500 nm. The layered structure according to the present invention laminated on glass has a visual light transmittance (VLT) higher than 70% and a solar heat gain coefficient (SHGC) lower than 0.44. The invention further relates to the use of a layered structure as a transparent heat-mirror.

Infra-red reflecting layered structure

The invention relates to a layered structure comprising a plastic substrate, at least one intermediate metallic layer on top of this plastic substrate and a metal or metal alloy layer on top of this intermediate metallic layer. The metal or metal alloy layer is applied from the melt of a metal or metal alloy. The invention further relates to a method of manufacturing such a layered structure.

A sputtering magnetron with a rotating cylindrical target and a stationary magnet assembly ( *) is described, the magnet assembly ( *) being adapted to produce an elongate plasma race-track on the surface of the target, the elongate race-track having substantially parallel tracks over a substantial portion of its length and being closed at each end by end portions ( &prime;), wherein the spacing between the tracks of the race-track is increased locally to materially effect sputtering onto a substrate. The increase in spacing may be at the end portions or along the parallel track portion. The increase in spacing may provide more even erosion of the target beneath the end portions of the race-track, and provide more even coatings on the substrate.

A material is disclosed which is suitable for reducing the reflection of information displays such as a CRT, LCD, plasma tube, etc., and is characterised by an improved pencil hardness and excellent optical properties (lower average reflection, higher bandwidth). The anti-reflection material of the invention comprises an anti-reflective coating and an optional top coat on a flexible glass substrate that is capable of being wound around a cylindrical core having a radius of 1.5 m. In a preferred method of the present invention the glass substrate is provided with anti-reflective coating using a continuous web coating process while being laminated to a polymer support by using adhesive layer . Upon delamination (arrows ) the adhesive layer may remain fixed to glass substrate (right embodiment of FIG. ) or to polymer support (left embodiment of FIG. ). After said delamination the glass substrate provided with anti-reflective coating may be adhered to the front panel of an information display device.

An antipiliferage tag comprising a soft-magnetic thin film (100) for use as an active element in an electronic article surveillance (E.A.S.) system. The film (100) has an easy axis (102) with a particular direction. The tag has been folded along at least one folding line (104) so that the tag comprises at least two layers which at least partially overlap with each other. The folding line (104) forms an oblique angle different from zero with the direction of the easy axis (102) so that the direction of the easy axis (102) in one layer is different from the direction of the easy axis (106) in another layer. In this way an antipiliferage tag which is insensitive to its orientation in a detection gate of an E.A.S. system is obtained.

The invention relates to a method and apparatus for continuously cleaning a long metal substrate, such as a wire, a band, a cord, etc., the long substrate to be cleaned being led through a vacuum chamber, whereinto an inert sputtering gas, such as argon, is fed, and a sufficiently high voltage being maintained between the substrate as cathode and an anode present in the chamber so that an electric discharge takes place between the two electrode, as a result of which the substrate is cleaned by inert gas ions bombarding it during its passage through the vacuum chamber, and the anode being formed by at least one annular electrode, fitted in a long casing of heat-radiation transmitting material and the long substrate being led through the casing in longitudinal direction. The invention further relates to the thus cleaned metal substrates, as well as to the objects of polymer material reinforced therewith.

Method and apparatus for cold sputter cleaning an elongated metal

A brass alloy coating is disclosed which is of use in the manufacture of steel reinforced rubber articles, particularly tires. The alloy contains small amounts of phosphorus, particularly phosphates, and the adhesion between the rubber and brass is thereby improved, especially under high humidity and/or high temperature conditions.
