The present invention relates to selecting a communication technology () in a radio frequency (RF)-based sensing system () with one or more nodes (). The RF-based sensing system () is configured for performing RF-based sensing using one or more of two or more different communication technologies (). A communication technology () for performing RF-based sensing in the RF-based sensing system () is selected for one or more of the nodes () based on one or more parameters related to RF-based sensing in the RF-based sensing system (). A communication technology () optimal for a current sensing application with a current sensing quality requirement in a current context considering the available system resources can be selected. The communication technologies can be wideband () and narrowband () communication technologies. The parameters can include sensing application parameters, sensing quality parameters, system resource parameters, and contextual parameters.

Communication technology selection for radio frequency based sensing

The present invention relates to a control module () for controlling a smart home device (), wherein the smart home device is part of a smart home device system (). The control module comprises a system information providing unit () for providing information about the smart home device system, an allocating unit () for allocating a part of a technical resource for a function of the smart home device based on the provided information about the smart home device system, and a control unit () for controlling the smart home device such that the smart home device uses only the allocated part of the technical resource for executing the function. A method comprises determining () sensing input and determining () a likelihood that a human or animal is present based on the sensing input. The sensing input reflects changes in radio frequency signals received by one or more devices. The method further comprises controlling () a lighting device to render a light effect upon determining that the likelihood exceeds a presence detection threshold, and to continue to render the light effect for a subsequent predetermined period of time even when the likelihood changes by more than a predetermined value within the predetermined period. The method further comprises indicating () the likelihood to a user via an indication selected from a plurality of indications, e.g. by rendering the indication on the lighting device. A different indication of the plurality of indications is selected upon determining that the likelihood has changed more than the predetermined value.

Indicating a likelihood of presence being detected via multiple indications

The invention is related to a pair-assignment device () comprising a sensing-node position ascertainment unit () configured to ascertain position information (P.I.) pertaining to respective positions of external RF-sensing nodes () with respect to a predefined sensing volume () of a RF context-sensing arrangement and a pair-assigning unit () configured to assign, using the ascertained position information, at least one transmitter-receiver pair among the individual RF-sensing nodes of the RF context-sensing arrangement to perform a RF context-sensing function, to assign to the RF sensing nodes of the given transmitter-receiver pair a transmitter role (Tx) and a receiver role (Rx), respectively. The pair-assignment device then provides pair information indicative of the at least one assigned transmitter-receiver pair and the assigned transmitter and receiver roles and thus enables an increase of tolerance of the RF context-sensing arrangement against changes in the position of movable objects.

The present invention relates to adjusting one or more wireless parameters of one or more nodes () based on one or more node parameters including a relative location of the one or more of the nodes (). The nodes () are wirelessly connected in a wirelessly connected system () and configured for transmitting radio frequency (RF) signals (), receiving RF signals (), or both. The one or more wireless parameters are adjusted such that the wireless performance of the one or more of the nodes () is optimized for an application of the wirelessly connected system (). Transmission power can be adjusted such that a probability of detecting an event in a volume () not to be covered by the one or more of the nodes () is reduced, allowing reduction of false positives from non-covered volumes ().

A method for use in a lighting system for rendering emergency lighting comprises detecting () a switch from a normal mode of the lighting system to an emergency mode of the lighting system and a switch from the emergency mode to the normal mode and activating () an emergency radio frequency-based sensing function upon detecting the switch from the normal mode to the emergency mode. The invention relates to detecting commissioning errors in a commissioned sensor system, wherein the sensor system comprises a plurality of sensor devices installed so as to cover an area. The sensor devices capture sensor data from the area whilst at least one entity moves through the area.
