An electric switch including a stationary contact that is annular. The switch comprises a gastight enclosure, a conductor bar of axis (D), a stationary contact presenting a contact zone of substantially annular shape, a switch element, e.g. on the conductor bar, that is movable in the axial direction of the axis (D) between a first position in which it penetrates in part into the stationary contact to establish electrical contact between the conductor bar and the stationary contact, and a second position in which it interrupts said contact. The stationary contact, which is in the form of a ring that is circular or elongate, such as elliptical, surrounds the conductor bar, at least in part.

Supports for high or medium voltage electrical conductors () at potentials different from the potential of an enclosure () are supported by disc-shaped parts () made from thermoplastic polyester, for example terephthalate polyethylene. The discs (and) provide good insulation without largely disturbing the electrical field around the conductors due to their fairly low dielectric constant. They are also compatible with use under SFgas.

A high or medium voltage electrical switch, particularly a GIS type isolating switch with three switching positions and a grounding position, includes a switching element in a closed and sealed enclosure that can be filled with a dielectrically insulating gas, containing a mobile switching element free to move along an axial direction to electrically connect two conducting bars at intervals from each other, and also including a fixed ground contact to be electrically connected to one of the two conducting bars through the switching element when the switch is in the grounding position. The fixed ground contact is offset from the path of the switching element along the axial direction and the switching element forms a Y with a contact pin such that the contact pin and the fixed ground contact engage in each other through displacement of the switching element along the axial direction.

The gas-blast circuit breaker has passages in the pump piston which connect the pump space to the arcing space surrounding the quenching tube and to the surrounding space located within the circuit breaker housing. These passages are held closed during switching-off and open during switching-on by valve devices. For this purpose, in one embodiment the pump piston is used as a valve seat and an annular disk is used as a valve body which is common to the first valve and to the second valve, the first valve controlling the passage between the pump space and the surrounding space, and the second valve controlling the passage between the pump space and the arcing space. When switching-off large currents, the piston is subjected to an overpressure in the switching-off direction, which overpressure is produced by switching gas flowing into the arcing space, in order to support the drive. The valves are prevented from opening due to the pressure in the pump space. During switching-on, the pump space is enlarged and the arcing space is reduced in size, causing the annular disk to be raised off the pump piston against the spring prestressing it by means of the reduced pressure in the pump space and the overpressure in the arcing space. Thus, the pump and arcing spaces are able to communicate with the surrounding space and to ensure pressure equalization without the drive having to apply more energy during switching-on than in the case of a circuit breaker without an arcing space.
