An identification device () for a pneumatic spring () includes an RFID transponder (), which is completely embedded into the elastomer matrix () of the flexible member (). An electromagnetic field is generated by a read device (), wherein the energy necessary for supplying the RFID transponder () is taken from the electromagnetic field generated by the read device (). When the read device () is active, information can be exchanged between the RFID transponder () and the read device (). The RFID transponder () operates completely without an internal energy supply. The RFID transponder () may also be configured as a read/write transponder including a memory chip, wherein data may be stored on the memory chip in a safe and permanent manner. By retrieving data from the RFID transponder (), an identification of the pneumatic spring () is possible even without any internal power supply of the RFID transponder.

The invention relates to a sensor as a built-in component of an object, especially an elastic object, the sensor comprising a polymer material containing electroconductive additives according to the invention and thereby acting as an expansion sensor (), in that it measures the static and dynamic expansions of the object in relation to the acting forces and also monitors the changes of the polymer material generated by the static and dynamic expansions of the object over time. A cover assembly for an air spring for vehicles includes a cover () and a buffer () in the cover (). The cover () is made from plastic and has reinforcing ribs () on the inside. A flexible member air spring has an end section of the flexible member attached to a connecting part by a clamp ring. The connecting part has a slot having a truncated cone-shaped cross section. The base of the slot is cylindrical and a flank of the slot has a linear conical form. The inner surface of the clamp ring extends parallel to the base surface. In the clamped state, the inner radius of the clamp ring is less than or equal to at least one of the radii of the slot upper edges. The flexible member is not compressed between the base surface of the slot and the inner side of the clamp ring. The clamp ring, with at least one slot flank, forms a constriction clamping the flexible member wall of the end section.

An air spring rolling-lobe flexible member, which is made of elastomeric material, has a reinforcement arrangement which is embedded in the flexible member wall (). The reinforcement arrangement extends along the entire length of the flexible member and is of rubber-coated cord fabric layers (). The flexible member has a non-symmetric reinforcement arrangement wherein the one outer fabric layer () or the several outer fabric layers has/have a stress-elongation characteristic which is different from that of the one inner fabric layer () or the several inner fabric layers.

Tubular-shaped flexible members for air springs are made of rubber or rubber-like elastomers and are reinforced by reinforcement layers. In order that the air spring flexible member can roll telescopically off a roll-off piston, the tubular-shaped flexible member sections must be brought into a slightly conical or bottle-like configuration and then vulcanized in this form. A method forms and vulcanizes an air spring flexible member blank and utilizes an apparatus which includes a mold defining a bellied inner wall defining a common hollow space for receiving the air spring flexible member blank therein. A pressure bellows unit includes a pressure bellows extending axially in the common hollow space as well as first and second end pieces joined to the pressure bellows at corresponding longitudinal ends thereof. In the method, the blank is placed over the pressure bellows and pressurized air is introduced into the interior of the pressure bellows to expand the pressure bellows thereby pressing the blank against the bellied inner wall and causing the pressure bellows to shorten. The end pieces are moved along the longitudinal axis to follow the shortening of the pressure bellows as the pressure bellows expands thereby holding a mechanical loading on the pressure bellows to a low value.
