The invention relates to a device and a method for producing a pipe () from a hollow block () which has an opening (). The device has a rolling mill () for rolling the hollow block () via a rolling rod () introduced into the opening () of the hollow block (), whereby the pipe () is produced. A retaining device () for retaining the pipe () is provided behind the rolling mill (), and the device is further designed such that the rolling rod () can be drawn out of the pipe () after the rolling process while the pipe () is retained by the retaining device ().
