An airbag has a front part facing a vehicle occupant and from two back parts facing away from the vehicle occupant. The two back parts have a larger surface than the front part. The back parts each have a first portion which is dimensioned in such a way that the two first portions of the back parts jointly correspond to the front part in terms of shape and size. The two back parts are connected along the free edges of their first portions to the front part along the outer circumference of the latter. The back parts have second portions that extend essentially transversely to the front part and are connected to one another along their outer edges. The connection of the second portions of the back parts is interrupted at least in one portion to form a gas inlet orifice.

An airbag arrangement comprising: an airbag; a housing ( ), formed of plastics material, for containing the airbag in a deflated, folded condition; a cover ( ), formed of flexible material, and attached to the airbag housing ( ) by a seal around a substantial portion of the periphery of the housing ( ). The seal may be by heat or pressure sensitive glue, by ultrasonic or vibration welding or by deformable lugs ( ). This arrangement is cheaper to produce and quicker to assemble, and has the advantage of being generally tamper-proof, since any tampering with the package will be immediately evident from detachment of the cover or tears therein.

An airbag housing can be attached to an installation supporting means on a motor vehicle. The airbag housing has on a side facing the installation supporting means at least one resilient member which is formed in one piece with the airbag housing and permits a resilient movement of the airbag housing relative to the installation supporting means.

An airbag module has a gas distributor arranged between a gas generator and an airbag, in which at least a first and a second flow path for a gas are provided in the gas distributor. At least one valve device that opens and closes the respective flow path is arranged in each case in the flow paths. The first flow path connects the gas generator to the airbag, and the second flow path is not connected to the airbag.

The invention relates to an airbag module for vehicles, particularly for installation in a seat of a vehicle. The airbag module has a support with components for fastening the total airbag system to the vehicle and for accommodating the gas generator as well.

An airbag has two cloth layers disposed next to each other and connected with each other in their outer marginal area. One of the cloth layers has an inflation gas inlet opening. The two cloth layers er are connected with each other by at least one tear seam, which at least partially encloses the discharge opening. The tear seam extends away from the discharge opening and is configured so as to tear open when the airbag is inflated by starting at an end of the tear seam that is closest to the inflation gas inlet opening.
