A print head for a printer is constructed as an optical character generator and comprises a plurality of switch cells arranged in a two-dimensional field. The energy output by radiation source is transmitted in parallel onto the matrix dots arranged in a grid and these matrix dots lie in the plane of an ink layer on a band-shaped continuous carrier. Each of the switch cells comprises an optical switch element composed of a transparent ferro-electric ceramic substrate composed of lead, zirconate titanate doped with lanthanum and having transparent electrodes for applying a pulse-shaped controlled voltage. In response to a corresponding control voltage, the radiant energy is transmitted frm the switch element into the allocated matrix dot, for example, for a local melting of the ink layer on the carrier, which was coated with a thermo plastic printing ink having a low melting point. The printing arrangement is suitable for line printers having single colors or multiple color printing.

Thermo transfer printer

In the cleaning station of an electrophotographic printer, the stripper element is driven with the assistance of a cable roller arranged outside of a stripping chamber. The cable roller arranged in alignment with the through openings for the traction cable comprises guide grooves for the traction cable on its generated surface, these guide grooves proceeding left-hand or right-hand in a plurality of spirals or turns. Via a thread, the cable roller is arranged on a stationary rotational axis which has the same characteristic as the guide grooves in terms of direction and pitch or slope. As a result thereof, the traction cable is conducted on a straight line through the seals of the stripping chamber at a constant angle given movement of the cable roller.

Mechanism for the drive of actuation elements movable in sealed regions

A laser printing system for multi-color and verso printing is formed of a plurality of units arranged in series which are simultaneously operated. A recording medium emerging from a paper exit region of a preceding unit is supplied to a paper entry region of the following unit. A switchable deflection means for the paper web is disposed in at least one of or between the units. The individual units can thus be constructed of individual fixing modules and printer modules which can be combined with one another. At least one fixing module follows a plurality of printer modules.

A stacking device for pre-folded endless paper web in a paper stacker is provided with a stationary stack support or deposit surface and a piler means disposed for movement over the deposit surface for receiving and folding the paper web along its crease lines in zig-zag layers on the paper stack. The invention offers the advantage that the movable elements of the paper stacker have significantly lighter and constant masses, so that the inventive structure may be made less expensively than conventional, known paper stacker arrangements. Between the feed roll means delivering the paper web into the stacker and the relatively movable piler, there is provided a guidance means for conducting the paper web in non-collapsing fashion downwardly within the stacker to the piler. The guidance means is constructed so as to automatically vary in length in accordance with the changing working height of the piler during stacking operation. The guidance means may be in the form of a plurality of synthetic bands provided along opposed sides of the paper web wherein the bands are connected at their upper ends to automatic tensioning means which maintain the bands under tension and allow the bands to lengthen or contract in accordance with the relative movement of the piler.

Paper stacker for a pre-folded continuous paper web

A central drive system for a nonmechanical printing or copying device such as a photocopier has a central drive system with one motor which is subdivided into a main drive system with high precision for driving elements requiring a high degree of synchronization and a subsystem with less precision for driving elements requiring a lesser degree of synchronization. The main drive system drives the photoconductor drum, the slide scanning roller and a feed crawler in the paper transport unit. The subsystem drives a cleaning brush, the developer roller and mixing screws in the developer station.

Drive system for a photocopier

A pressure device for applying pressure to a web-like image-receiving material, such as a continuous paper web in the transfer station of a non-mechanical printer or copier, has a C-shaped pressure bar which extends over the width of the image-receiving material and is open on a side adjacent to the image-receiving material and which is pivotable about a point disposed above the pressure bar, and a solenoid having a movable plunger which is connected via a linkage to a pin carried on the rear of the pressure plate such that when the solenoid is in a normal rest condition the pressure bar is forced against the image-receiving material such that the image-receiving material presses against the surface of a rotating intermediate image carrier having an electrostatically held toner image thereon for transferring the image to the image-receiving material. When the solenoid is actuated, the plunger retracts thereby pulling the pressure bar away from the image-receiving material by rotating the pressure bar about its pivot point. The pressure bar may also include an eccentric disc having a pin engaging the linkage so that the movement of the pressure bar is retarded as the pressure bar moves toward or away from the image-receiving material.

For the development of charge images on photoelectric carriers, a developer mixture is used which is comprised of carrier particles and toner particles. In order to prevent excessive aging of this developer mixture, the developer station is constantly supplied with fresh developer and used developer is constantly removed in the same quantity. The quantity of the developer which is supplied to or removed from the developer station is determined with the help of dosing devices. These can include a rotary element with a bore hole. The bore hole is filled with developer and, after rotation of the element by 180.degree., it is again emptied. The rotational speed of the rotary element and the size of the bore hole determine the quantity of developer which is supplied to the developer station or, respectively, is removed therefrom.

A fixing device in a printing or copying means which fixes a toner applied to a data-carrier, i.e., a paper web, via a solvent comprising an azeotropic mixture, such as one consisting of 50.5 weight % of C.sub.2 Cl.sub.3 F.sub.3 and 49.5 weight % of CH.sub.2 Cl.sub.2.

Method of vapor fixing a toner

A printing device in which solvent dissolved toner is applied to a recording carrier to produce a symbol or image wherein a printing head is received interior of a housing with toner particles circulated in the housing in a gas stream. Solvent ejectors within the print head are positioned adjacent a slot opening of the housing and direct a toner-solvent stream against a recording carrier exterior of the housing.
