A barrel is provided having open proximal end and a closed distal end, and at least one groove in an interior wall thereof. The groove(s) define a length extending a distance from the open end of the barrel toward the distal end of the barrel and defining a substantially constant depth and width along the length thereof. A piston is in sealing engagement with the interior wall of the barrel. The groove(s) permits fluid to bypass the piston when positioned along the groove(s). At least a portion of the piston is positioned distally from the groove(s), thereby sealing substance within the barrel.

Needle safety shield

Embodiments of the invention relate to a transfer device for a container whose interior is under negative pressure and which is closed by means of an elastic stopper. The device has a receiving cap and a piercing mandril for piercing the stopper. Relative to its direction of piercing, the piercing mandril is provided with a front piercing portion and with a rear sealing portion which is of greater diameter. In the position in which a bead of the container is inserted into the receiving cap, the sealing portion contacts the stopper. In this way, a tear in the stopper, which tear has been formed by eccentric application of the device onto the container, can be sealed off.

Self-sealing medical fluid transfer device

The invention concerns a package () for sterilized products or products to be sterilized comprising a plastic box () and a lid () fixed on the box () to seal the latter with a tight sealing zone. The invention is characterized in that the lid () comprises: a plastic cover sheet () transparent for electronic irradiation and for light radiation; at least a window () provided in the cover sheet (); at least a sheet of selectively sealing material () integral with said cover sheet () and closing the window (); and an opaque screen () for at least an electronic irradiation passing through the cover sheet or the selectively sealing material, said screen extending inside the package (), proximate to the cover sheet (), so as to allow through a sterilizing gas, for example ethylene oxide (ETO) or water vapor, through the selectively sealing material ().

Multipurpose packages for sterile products or products to be sterilized

A needle shield is removably mountable to a syringe to protect a user from inadvertent needle pricks and limit contamination of a needle of the syringe. The needle shield includes a plug having an external surface and a shell having an inner surface defining a cavity therein. The plug is positioned within the cavity and a portion of the external surface of the plug is in contact with the inner surface of the shell at a contact area. The plug is non-removably bonded to the shell in the contact area by melting a portion of the shell and the plug in the contact area through application of radiation energy. A securing ring may alternatively be fixed to the shell through the application of radiation energy to secure a shoulder of the plug between the ring and a rib of the shell. The radiation energy is preferably applied by laser welding.

Needle shield

Embodiments of the invention include a fluid transfer device, for example, for medical fluids. The device includes a housing, two piercing elements mounted in the housing, and a slide arranged between the piercing elements. The slide may be displaced with respect to the piercing elements such that, in a first position, a flow connection is established between the two piercing elements, and, in a second position, a flow connection is established between one of the piercing elements and a lateral opening of the housing. In the area of the lateral opening, the housing may have a connector for insertion of a syringe cone of a syringe. When the syringe cone is inserted into the connector, the front end of the syringe cone may move the slide from the first position to the second position.

This packaging for sterile products or products intended to be sterilized by a gas, for example a gas of the ETO type, comprises a tub () made of plastic and a cover sheet () made of selectively impervious material, fixed to the tub () so as to seal the latter imperviously. According to the invention, the packaging comprises a screen () against electron radiation (E), placed along the cover sheet () on the inside of the tub () and dimensioned in such a way as to extend above the products () to be sterilized and so as to delimit on the cover sheet () a peripheral zone () for fixing this cover sheet () to the tub ().

A vacuum packaging system for transporting a plurality of medical containers including a tray that supports the medical containers and an air impervious flexible film defining an internal cavity. The air impervious flexible film completely surrounds the tray and the medical containers. The internal cavity is evacuated to a predetermined vacuum level below atmospheric pressure. A method for packaging the plurality of medical containers for transportation in the tray includes inserting the medical containers into the tray, inserting the tray filled with medical containers into the internal cavity, evacuating the internal cavity to a predetermined vacuum pressure and sealing the flexible film such that the predetermined vacuum pressure is generally maintained in the internal cavity.

Method for packaging medical containers

A drug delivery system for administering preset doses of a substance such as a drug, vaccine or the like. The drug delivery system includes a holder and a pre-filled drug container such as a syringe which is retained in the holder. The drug container includes a barrel for containing the substance, a movable stopper situated within the barrel, and a blunt end having an opening through which the substance within the barrel can be expelled. The holder includes a distal portion and a proximal portion, each configured to accommodate the drug container, with the distal portion being able to be assembled to the proximal portion, which acts as a plunger rod during activation of the delivery system. A plurality of slots are provided on the holder that permit multiple equal doses of the substance to be administered to each nostril of the patient.

Luer lock type connection device for medical use having a nozzle in which an axial internal passage is formed. The nozzle includes a bearing connection surface and a proximal annular retention zone. The connection device also has a flange forming an axial open seat having a wall that includes a distal part with internal screw thread, and a transverse proximal part in which a central proximal retention opening is formed, and whose diameter is matched to that of the proximal annular zone of the nozzle. The proximal annular retention zone of the nozzle and/or the central proximal retention opening of the flange include a circular band or cord covered or treated with a roughening agent.

Sealed connection device for medical use of the luer lock type and syringe incorporating such a device

A transfer set for transferring fluids from a first container, such as a conventional vial, to a second container, such as a conventional syringe. The transfer set includes an integral tubular housing having a tubular collar surrounding the rim of the vial, a radial portion sealingly engaging the stopper in the vial, an integral tubular transfer member and an outer tubular portion surrounding at least the distal portion of the tubular transfer member, a piercing member within the tubular transfer member and a closure releasably retaining the distal end of the piercing member.
