A piece of mechanized surgical equipment is provided, which includes an instrument holder having an element for receiving and retaining a surgical instrument for mechanized use. Also provided is a surgical instrument for mechanized use and configured to be mounted on the instrument holder. The element for receiving and retaining is mobile between an unlocking position, in which the element enables insertion of the instrument into the instrument holder or withdrawal thereof, and a locking position, in which the element prevents the withdrawal of the instrument from the instrument holder. Furthermore, the equipment includes a case in which an active blade of the instrument can be removably housed, the case having an engaging element for engaging with the receiving and retaining element so as to cause the element to move from the unlocking position to the locking position, or vice versa.

The invention relates to a protective device for dental equipment of the type including a straight handpiece or a contra-angle. The dental equipment is formed by a body enclosing a motor unit and/or members for transmitting movement and a tool-holder head bearing a tool. The protective device is a sleeve that has the general form of a glove finger, with an opening at one end and a closed base at the other end. The invention also relates to a sealed packaging for an insert formed by a tool-holder head bearing the tool and equipped with the protective device.

A dental power instrument, in particular, an endodontic instrument, has an operative part () at one end and a handle () at the opposite end. The handle () of the dental instrument is provided with a rotary drive () which, when mounted in the head () of a handpiece, can directly engage with a rotary drive (') upstream of the head. The rotary drive () can be inserted and withdrawn independently of the rotary drive (&#x2032;) associated with the head of the handpiece, and rotates in the same direction as the rotary drive (&#x2032;) associated with the handpiece. A sequence of canal instruments for performing an endodontic operating protocol uses a sequence of several instruments, for example, three such instruments with three cutting blades. The instruments have a progressive conicity, for example, 6%, 4% and 2%, and each instrument has an identical progressive pitch. The pitch further increases progressively from instrument to instrument as a function of the conicity of each instrument.

An instrument for periodontal treatment includes a blade () which is integrally connected to a head (). The head () can be coupled to a handpiece to impart a vibratory movement to the blade (). The blade () has an active part () distributed along the blade () on a side defined by a plane passing through the axis of the blade (). The center of the blade () is additionally provided with an irrigation channel () for receiving a liquid which opens out at the center of the active part () of the blade () along the major part of its length. This ensures, on the one hand, cleaning of the active part () of the tool during a procedure, and on the other hand, removal of the detached particles.

A mechanized dental instrument includes an active part () and a sleeve () arranged on an end of the dental instrument which opposes the active part. The sleeve () is provided with a rotary drive means () that can, when assembled with the head of a handpiece, directly engage with a rotary drive means located upstream of the head of the handpiece. The drive means () is produced from a flat metallic piece which is fixed to the active part () by being slid over the axle () of the active part (), and which is provided with at least one opening () that is shaped to enable the circulation of plastic material forming the sleeve () when the sleeve () is molded over the axle () to ensure the connection of the rotary drive means () on the axle ().

Dental reamers are manufactured from a cylindrical metallic blank (e.g., made of a nickel-titanium alloy) that is moved at a feed speed V.sub.A past a rotary grinding wheel whose disk, of variable diameter, determines a linear speed V.sub.L at which material is removed. The feed speed V.sub.A is greater than 91440 cm/min, while the linear speed V.sub.L is less than 7.62 cm/min.

The present invention relates to a dental reamer (2) which tapers right down to its tip (1), of the type including helical slits which, on their sides, have cutting lips for boring out dental canals, in which the characteristics of the cutting conditions are defined by, on the one hand, a cutting angle .alpha. determined by the tangent to the cutting edge at the cutting point and the perpendicular to the surface to be cut at this point and, on the other hand, a clearance angle .beta. determined by the plane of the cutting surface and the tangent to the inactive face of the cutting edge, characterized in that the value of the cutting angle .alpha. is greater than or equal to zero and that of the clearance angle .beta. is greater than zero.

Dental reamer

A dental reamer having one or more cutting sections and one or more spiral grooves. The dental reamer has at least one cutting edge having a cutting point, characterized in that a tangent to the cutting point tends to superimpose itself on a tangent to a diameter of a circle in which the cutting sections are inscribed, wherein the diameter passes through the cutting point. The invention provides a reaming cut that, in a surprising manner, reduces or even eliminates the spiral displacement (i.e., uncontrolled advancement of the reamer) that results from rotation of the prior-art reamers, while still maintaining an excellent reaming efficacy.

A dental handpiece which can receive one of a number of vibrating instruments for applications in endodontics or periodontal treatment includes an elongate handpiece for defining a body enclosing a non-rotating axle excited mechanically in vibration, mounted in the body by semi-flexible supports which contribute to generating and localizing a vibration node towards the front of the handpiece and to retain the vibrating axle centrally with its housing. A flexible interconnection is provided between the axle and the rotating driven shaft of the operating motor, to develop the vibrations which are desired.
