A computing device for a printing device may include a first transducer for generating a first clock frequency and a second transducer for generating a second clock frequency. A printing device may include two printers for printing to the front side and the back side of a recording medium. The physical page length of at least one print image applied onto the front side of the recording medium is determined. The required page length of at least one print image to be applied onto the back side of the recording medium is adapted to the determined page length. At least one print line of the print image for the back side is printed repeatedly if the required page length for application of the rear print page onto the back side of the recording medium is smaller than the determined page length.

A controller may detect an elevation of a recording medium that is to be printed to, the elevation may result in the printing element of a printing device being negatively affected. The controller may automatically produce a time-limited printing pause of the printing element in which the printing gap between the printing element and the recording medium is temporarily enlarged in order to direct the detected elevation past the printing element. A method is provided for error handling in a printer or copier. A plurality of monitoring units detect error states of the printer or copier. A detected error states are transmitted to a controller. A plurality of successively transmitted error states are stored in a storage. The stored error states are evaluated by the controller. The stored error states are compared with predetermined error patterns and at least one error type is determined. Further steps are executed by the controller dependent on the error type.
