A container has a variable volume, wherein a basic container has a bottom panel and a roof panel. One or more hinged side panels are rotatable about a horizontal axis, and one or more expansion elements are telescopable out of the basic container and have a bottom panel, a side open toward a front the basic container and a front panel opposite the open side. Each expansion element is open toward the top and, in a telescoped state, the roof panel is formed by a raised side panel of the basic container. One or more hoisting devices is associated with each expansion element and with which the expansion element is lowerable.

A basic container has at least one expansion element which can be moved out of the basic container. A lifting device permits lowering of the expansion element such that, after the expansion element has been moved out of the basic container, the floor wall of the expansion element and the basic container are situated at the same level. An expansion element can be lifted such that, after the lowering, the expansion element can be moved back into the basic container. The lifting device is active between the folded-open side wall and the expansion element.

The one expansion element(s) is/are open toward the top and, in a telescoped state, the roof panel is formed by a raised side panel of the basic container. One or more hoisting devices is associated with each expansion element and with which the expansion element is lowerable. Thereby, after the one or more expansion elements are telescoped out, the bottom panels of the expansion element(s) and of the basic container are at the same height and also so that the expansion element(s) is insertable back into the basic container after being lowered. The hoisting device(s) is/are configured to act on the hinged side panel to lower and raise the at least one expansion element.

A container according to ISO standards as a mobile workspace in civilian and military use comprising a cuboid metal frame of ISO corners and edge profiles connecting these ISO corners as well as thermally insulated side walls, ceiling and floor. The edge profiles are designed in two parts and the two partial profiles of an edge profile run parallel to one another and the intermediate space between the two profiles is filled completely by a thermally insulating material, with the side walls, ceiling and floor having a vacuum insulation layer.

A container that is used as a mobile workspace for both civilian and military applications. At least one flat-shaped structural element of the container, e.g., the interior or the exterior wall, the floor or the ceiling, includes surface layers with sandwiched insulation material, and rib-shaped spacers between the two surface layers. According to the invention, the two surface layers, as well as the rib-shaped spacers, may consist of fiber-reinforced plastic material, and the rib-shaped spacers hold a metal profile.
