Techniques and architectures for multi-stage cancellation of self-interference (SI) and joint cancellation of mutual-interference (MI) and residual SI in signals received by devices of a full-duplex multi-cell network are disclosed. In various examples, channel estimations and interference cancellation operations are performed utilizing multiple orthogonal training signals transmitted by network devices during a common over-the-air training period. Training signals derived from the orthogonal training signals during transmission are utilized to generate SI estimation information and perform at least a first SI cancellation operation on a received signal that includes at least first and second orthogonal training signals. The received signal and orthogonal training signals are then used to estimate a MI channel impulse response and a (residual) SI channel impulse response for use in joint MI/SI cancellation operations on further received signals. Details regarding the design of the orthogonal training signals and a unique system-level delay calibration procedure are also provided.

Method and apparatus for interference cancellation in full-duplex multi-cell networks

A method that comprises identifying a group of user equipment (UEs) in a radio access network, where the group includes a transmitting UE and a plurality of receiving UEs. The method further comprises sending control information including probe signal parameters to the transmitting UE and to the receiving UEs. The method also comprises receiving, from the receiving UEs, performance metrics relating to receipt of a probe signal sent by the transmitting UE based on the probe signal parameters. The method may be implemented by a scheduler. As such, based on the feedback received, the scheduler may carry out more judicious pairing of UEs for uplink and downlink transmission, which may be particularly suitable when the UEs communicate in half-duplex fashion.

Method and system for generating and processing user-equipment-to-user-equipment probe signal

Methods and devices for receiving or transmitting a wireless packet are described. A wireless packet includes a short training field (STF) and a channel estimation field (CEF). The receiver determines whether the received STF matches an assigned STF assigned for a target link, by performing cross-correlation between the STF and a component sequence from a set of at least four different component sequences which are pairs of Golay sequences. The cross-correlation output is compared with an expected output. When the received STF matches the assigned STF, the wireless packet is considered a target packet. A channel estimation is performed using a cross-correlation of the received CEF with an assigned CEF assigned for the target link. The assigned CEF is from a set of two or more CEFs, where each CEF is formed using the set of component sequences, and the CEFs are pairwise zero-correlation zone (ZCZ) sequences.

Co-channel interference reduction in mmWave networks

A network-wide interference cancellation scheme estimates channel impulse responses related to Self Interference and the Mutual Interference, then reduces both the Self Interference and the Mutual Interference in the receiver of an Full Duplex device. Full Duplex gains may be capitalized upon and translated into system gain. The scheme is based on an extended Multiple-Input-Multiple-Output (MIMO) treatment of the whole Full Duplex network. The network-wide interference cancellation may be seen to be feasible when a unique pilot signal design and training structure are in place network-wide.

Channel impulse response estimation for full-duplex communication networks

A method includes transmitting a training signal derived from a sequence, the training signal facilitates an estimation of a channel impulse response (CIR) for a communications channel between a transmit antenna of the device and a receive antenna of the device, estimating the CIR for the communications channel, and receiving signals corresponding to a first transmission at the receive antenna. The method also includes cancelling self-interference present in the received signals in accordance with the estimated CIR, the self-interference arising from a second transmission made by the transmit antenna of the device, thereby producing an interference canceled received signal, and processing the interference canceled received signal.

System and method for training signals for full-duplex communications systems

A method, computer program, device and system are provided for determining channel state information for use in a wireless communications network. The channel state information includes a rank indicator (RI), precoding matrix index (PMI) and channel quality indicator (CQI). The RI, PMI or CQI can be determined based on channel covariance estimation and the Taylor series approximation of its inverse. Further, the RI and PMI can be determined separately.

A method and apparatus for tracking and mitigating phase noise in a communication receiver are disclosed. The phase noise tracking and mitigation apparatus operates in a recursive manner and includes a quantizer for determining data symbols from noise-compensated input values, a phase noise estimator for determining raw phase noise values from the data symbols and a first sequence of uncompensated input values, an error concealment module for removing unreliable samples from the raw phase noise values, a filter operable to filter the raw phase noise values to produce filtered phase noise values, and a phase-noise compensator for determining noise-compensated output values dependent upon the filtered phase noise values and the first sequence of uncompensated input values. Filter coefficients, and initial noise-compensated input values are determined from one or more second sequences of uncompensated input values corresponding to known symbols corrupted by phase noise.

A method and apparatus for peak to average power ratio reduction, the method precoding the data symbols using an inverse discrete Fourier transform ('IDFT'), choosing, at a transmitter, a set of training sequence symbols from a plurality of sets of training sequence symbols, and creating, at the transmitter, an IDFT precoded burst by adding the IDFT of the data symbols and an IDFT of the chosen set of training sequence symbols. Method and system for multiple training sequences for peak-to-average power ratio reduction in precoded bursts

The present disclosure provides for a method and apparatus for efficient cross-correlation between a reference sequence and a received sequence in a wireless communication system. The reference sequence includes a concatenation of sign-adjusted sub-sequences, the sign adjustments determined by a first sign sequence of a set of sign sequences. For example, the reference sequence may be an alternating concatenation of sign-adjusted Golay complementary pair sub-sequences. The received sequence is shifted to provide a plurality of time shifted sequences that are then cross-correlated with the sub-sequences to form a set of partial cross-correlations. The partial cross-correlations are sign-adjusted using the first sign sequence and combined to produce the cross-correlation between the reference sequence and the received sequence. The cross-correlations so produced may be used for channel signature (e.g. PHY-type) identification and/or channel impulse response estimation.

Method and apparatus of cross-correlation with application to channel estimation and detection

The present disclosure provides for the construction and use of a set of Zero-Correlation-Zone (ZCZ) Concatenated Complementary Pair (CCP) sequences with zero-correlation-zone range greater than one or with zero-correlation-zone range equal to one and the sequence set size greater than two. Complementary pair sequences A and B are selected and, for each member of the set of ZCZ CCP sequences, sign sequences pand pare combined with the complementary pair sequences to form a member ZCZ CCP sequence of the set. A ZCZ CCP sequence modified by propagation over a communication channel may be identified by cross-correlation with ZCZ CCP sequences of the set. A set of sign sequences may be constructed by recursive expansion from an initial set or found by a computer search. The sequences may be used in a transceiver of a portable electronic device or other communication device.

Zero correlation zone sequences for communication system

A receiver and associated method estimates a channel impulse response of the communications signal. A communications signal is received as a burst of transmitted symbols, including a known training sequence. The joint estimation of timing offset and initial channel impulse response is determined based on the cross-correlations of the known transmitted symbols and received communications signal. A constant modulus interference removal iteration is applied to improve the initial channel impulse estimation.
