A system for generating calibration data in an active antenna system (AAS) radio includes an array of directional couplers within a multi-channel transmit/receive signal path of the AAS radio, and a combiner network electrically coupled to the array of directional couplers. An array of filters is provided within the multi-channel transmit/receive signal path. The array of filters is electrically coupled to antenna-side terminals of the array of directional couplers. A plurality of pairs of transmitters and receivers are provided, which include a transmitter and a receiver that operate as a reference transmitter and a reference receiver, respectively. A removable routing network is provided, which is electrically coupled to antenna-side terminals of the array of filters, and is configured to feed back factory calibration signals (generated by the AAS radio during factory calibration) to antenna-side terminals of the array of filters. A multi-stage switch network is provided, which is electrically coupled to the reference transmitter, the reference receiver, the combiner network, and a factory calibration port of the routing network.

Systems and methods for generating calibration data in active antenna modules having antenna-side filter arrays therein

A directional coupler includes a primary transmission line electrically coupled in series between an input port and an output port of the coupler, and an asymmetric, meander-shaped, secondary transmission line, which is electrically coupled in series between a coupling port and an isolation port of the coupler. The secondary transmission line includes a first coupling segment, which is reactively coupled to a first portion of the primary transmission line, and a second coupling segment, which is reactively coupled to a second portion of the primary transmission line, and is spaced closer to, or farther from, the primary transmission line relative to the first coupling segment, such that an asymmetry in reactive coupling is present between the first and second portions of the primary transmission line and the secondary transmission line. An intermediate segment is provided, which is electrically coupled in series between the first and second coupling segments. A coupling port segment is provided, which is electrically connected in series between the first coupling segment and the coupling port. And, an isolation port segment is provided, which is electrically connected in series between the second coupling segment and the isolation port.

Enhanced directional couplers for massive MIMO antenna systems

An antenna includes a cross-polarized feed signal network configured to convert first and second radio frequency (RF) input feed signals to first and second pairs of cross-polarized feed signals at respective first and second pairs of feed signal output ports. A feed signal pedestal is provided, which is electrically coupled to the first and second pairs of feed signal output ports, and a patch radiating element is provided, which is electrically coupled by the feed signal pedestal to the first and second pairs of feed signal output ports. This patch radiating element may be capacitively coupled to first and second pairs of feed signal lines on the feed signal pedestal, which are electrically connected to the first and second pairs of feed signal output ports.

Beam forming antennas for base station applications are configured as dielectric resonator antennas (DRAs) having arrays of dielectric resonator radiating elements (DRRE) therein with dual-polarized radiating properties. Each DRRE includes a dielectric radiating element (DRE) electromagnetically coupled by a resonant cavity to a respective cross-polarized feed network, which is responsive to first and second radio frequency (RF) input feed signals. Each resonant cavity may be configured as a polymer-filled resonant cavity, and each DRE may be configured as a cylindrically-shaped or dome-shaped dielectric radiating element.

Beam forming antennas having dual-polarized dielectric radiating elements therein

An antenna includes a cross-polarized feed signal network configured to convert first and second radio frequency (RF) input feed signals into first and second pairs of cross-polarized feed signals at respective first and second pairs of feed signal output ports. A patch carrier is provided on the cross-polarized feed signal network. The patch carrier includes a substrate having a plurality of cavities therein, and first and second pairs of feed signal lines, which are electrically coupled to the first and second pairs of feed signal output ports and extend on sidewalls of the plurality of cavities. A patch radiating element is provided on the patch carrier. The patch radiating element is capacitively coupled to the first and second pairs of feed signal lines.

Wireless communication systems having patch-type antenna arrays therein that support wide bandwidth operation

A power coupler includes an input port, first and second output ports and an antenna element that is electrically coupled between the first output port and the second output port or that is electrically coupled to an isolation port of the power coupler. The power coupler is configured to split a radio frequency signal incident at the input port and/or to combine radio signals incident at the respective first and second output ports.
